If I like Otis...

I like the name Otis but am seeing it pop up a lot and worry it might become very popular. (Do you know many babies called Otis?)

I like strong two syllable names without a Y or ‘ey’. That sounds easy but we are not getting ANYWHERE.

I don't know any babies or dc with that name, although I like the sound of it. You could also consider Otto, which is similar, or Hugo?

Wheresthebiffer2 · 04/06/2020 11:53

Isn't Otis a brand of ear drops?

I've not met any babies or adults with the name.

How about Fraser, Callum, Michael, David, Edward

Whatsyourflava · 04/06/2020 11:59

Not met any babies with this name , it's practically outside the top 200 and the most recent years we have official statistics for the numbers and growth of Otis has massively slowed. If you like it I'd just use it, it's not that popular and any other name you choose might end up more popular

If not how about

Milo
Tristan
Barnaby
Sidney nn Sid
Eric
Cole
Chester

And yes Otto!

Adelais · 04/06/2020 12:00

I don’t know any baby Otis’s but I do see it mentioned more. How about...

Jago
Harris
Eben
Rufus
Caspar
Ludo
Odin
Milo
Eric
Ivo
Vincent
Hudson
Felix

I love the name Otis. I've met one Otto and a few Hugos over the years, but never an Otis. It's like Theo. It appears to be super popular, but in the 18 years of raising my own Theo, do you know how many actual Theos I've met in real life? Three! And I live in London!
My Theo was the only one in primary school. There was another Theo in secondary school who moved away in year 8. No other Theos in his school.

My point is, at the end of the day, go with the name you truly love. If you love Otis (I think it's a brilliant name), go with it.

I know one baby Otis. I like it!

TheVanguardSix · 04/06/2020 12:10

Just to suggest (I still like Otis the best):
Rex
Loic
Yann
Nils
Odin
Orin
Ray (Raymond)

OnABeachSomewhere · 04/06/2020 12:17

I've never met an Otis of any age. I much prefer it to Otto.

Orphlids · 04/06/2020 12:23

An old school pal has a toddler named Otis. I like it. The lead character in the rather splendid Netflix comedy is named Otis, so I think that might result in increased popularity.

cosmo30 · 04/06/2020 12:26

I know of one baby Otis. It's a lovely name

LockdownLoon · 04/06/2020 12:50

I know one baby Otis and a 5 year old Otis x

CeibaTree · 04/06/2020 13:26

I know 3 little Otis' - two of them have a brother called Finn, the other one has a brother names Silas. Felix and Otto have a similar vibe to Otis I think :)

pinkpinecone · 04/06/2020 13:46

Otis is a great name and not one you hear that often, I only know of one. I'm a big fan of boys names beginning with O.

@TheVanguardSix Theo is such a nice name but you were very ahead of the curve with it. I know SO many babies called Theo or Theodore born within the last few years.

chocolicious · 04/06/2020 13:50

My 6 week old DS is called Otis :). I also liked Oscar, Jacob and Milo.

SuperSharpShooter · 04/06/2020 13:52

I have an Otis 😍 not a baby though, and only met 2 - 3 others in 12 yrs.

SuperSharpShooter · 04/06/2020 13:54

Oops.
One of those was a 97 yr old who had NEVER met another Otis in his life.

35andThriving · 04/06/2020 13:57

I like it. I don't know any. I would class Errol as the same type of name.

I think you should use Otis if you love it. A lot of names that are talked about on here don't actually get used once the babies arrive anyway. I think the name discussions on here just make it seem more commonly used than it is.

BeMorePacific · 04/06/2020 14:14

I love the name Otis. I know one Otis and he’s 10, it really suits him.
I also think Milo is a lovely name x x

afrikat · 04/06/2020 15:29

If you love Otis, use it! Don't worry about it becoming 'popular'. We used a name outside the top 100 and my daughter still ended up with another in her pre school class.

Pippilangstrumpfi · 04/06/2020 18:38

I like Otis and feel it's becoming more popular.

These feel similar imo
Caspar
Rufus
Quentin
Magnus
Vincent

mrs87 · 05/06/2020 07:13

Felix, Milo, Otto, Sonny? (I know you said no - y endings but I only say the last one because a friend's DCs are Otis and Sonny so she has similar taste!)

20viona · 05/06/2020 07:27

Otto Came to mind first.

PlantPotting · 05/06/2020 09:33

Otis is such a lovely name. Never met one despite spending recent years at baby groups

There's such an assortment of names these days and Otis is lovely. I think you'd regret not using it

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/06/2020 09:35

Well Bryan Ferry has an Otis, also Tara, Merlin and Isaac (all boys)
