What's people's thoughts on the name Avery for a boy?

Labels.

Sorry!

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 28/05/2020 07:31

Sounds like a girls name. Not a fan.

Monkeytapper · 28/05/2020 07:32

I think of a bird aviary or Steven Avery (Making a Murderer On Netflix )

concernedforthefuture · 28/05/2020 07:32

Yep - I just thought labels too. Sorry.

Packamack · 28/05/2020 07:33

I love it. Very 1930s.

KatherineJaneway · 28/05/2020 07:37

I think Grey's Anatomy

Byets · 28/05/2020 07:38

Labels 😂 I hadn't thought of that!

Not looking very positive then, I love it!

I am biased because I have an Avery. I love it. Means King of the elves.

I get a lot of positive comments about it being nice and unusual.

Nobody has ever mentioned labels or bird cages!

A couple of times older generation has seemed not to like it/ think it is too umusual.

Byets · 28/05/2020 07:45

@anxiouswaiting ah that's nice to know that you have one and people tend to like it rather than seem confused by it!

I'm surprised the older generation don't like it as it's a name that's been around such a long time!

How old is your son? If old enough has he every experienced friends being confused by his name or anything like that?

I think it is absolutely beautiful & I really like different names.

My friend has an Avery. He's a cool kid and really suits his name. If you like it, go for it.

Hugt · 28/05/2020 07:46

Love it

LotusClover · 28/05/2020 07:50

I assumed it was a girls name when I read the thread title. It's very feminine sounding to me.

trinity0097 · 28/05/2020 07:53

All I think of are labels.

Byets · 28/05/2020 07:53

@theseriousmoonlight I think it's a really cool sounding name! Love that a few people have got it and it's not completely unheard of.

The only other name I have in mind is Freddy (shortened to Fred)

Avery Fred together I think are quite sweet!!

Copperas · 28/05/2020 07:55

Love it

gettingfedupagain · 28/05/2020 08:00

It's kind of "different" but in a predictable and getting popular way, I know a couple of them and it strikes me as "ooooooo aren't we interesting and different"

And it sounds like Aviaey

gettingfedupagain · 28/05/2020 08:01

Aviary it sounds like aviary

overnightangel · 28/05/2020 08:05

It’s for the birds

MaggieFS · 28/05/2020 08:06

Avery Berkel.

Never seen it used as a name but I would have assumed a girl too.

Byets · 28/05/2020 08:09

I think a lot of people presume it's a girls name as it does sound similar to a lot of girls names used nowadays. But it deffo is for boys! (I checked) 🤣

Avery?

Mucklowe · 28/05/2020 08:22

Awful. Sound like "aviary" or "ovary".

Byets · 28/05/2020 08:22

Also any opinions on Marli?

I love Marni but have been completely shut down that that's a girls name! Seeing if there's any boys alternatives 🤣

OP posts:
Miriel · 28/05/2020 08:39

I like Avery. The only association I have with the name is Avery Brooks, and he's great.

I don't like Marli, mostly because of the spelling. Marley is fine. Do you like Marcel, Marco, Marcus, Marius?

MoominKitty · 28/05/2020 08:40

I like it, but I like the old traditional but unused names, my boys called Tristan.

Not keen on marli as sounds incomplete if that makes sense, but could be a nickname for Marlon?

isitamapletree · 28/05/2020 08:56

Dd has a female friend called Avery so I think of it as a girls name.

Marli also seems quite feminine but not if spelt Marley for some reason.

Nothing wrong with unisex names though if you like those ones.
