Sarah

I think it has a really pretty sound. It’s classic, quite international and has a nice meaning, but is it too dated? Could you imagine it on a baby born in 2020?

It's just a bit dull

Fivefourthree · 23/05/2020 13:43

Sarah is a beautiful name. It's classic. My friend's 25 year old daughter has that name.

Orphlids · 23/05/2020 13:49

I think it’s lovely, and I agree with PP - it would be refreshing on a baby. I don’t think it’s dated at all. And it’s still in fairly common usage according to the stats, just dropped out of the top 100, but on a downward trajectory.

Boireannachlaidir · 23/05/2020 13:57

Oh I hate Sara but love Sarah. It's a gorgeous name.

GRW · 23/05/2020 14:29

It's one of the rare girls names that has always been in the top 100 names through the decades since 1900, so unlikely to sound dated. Elizabeth is also consistently in the top 100. I like Sarah.

Ellmau · 23/05/2020 14:31

It is classic; I don't really think it's dated; but I find it a bit dull, sorry.

TeaAddict235 · 23/05/2020 14:33

A nice change from the seas of Emilys and Emmas around me.

Go for it!

EnglishRose1320 · 23/05/2020 14:38

Sarah only dropped out of the top 100 names in 2017 so I don't think it's crazily uncommon, I think it's a pretty, classic name.

midsomermurderess · 23/05/2020 14:41

I worked with an absolute nutter called Sarah, a scheming, underhand, frankly alarming individual. It will always colour my reaction to the name.

finallychangedmyusername · 23/05/2020 15:30

Sarah is such a good name, great meaning and underused in this generation.

borntohula · 23/05/2020 15:34

Sarah is timeless and pretty.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 23/05/2020 15:35

I’m a Sarah. In the 70’s and 80’s it was a popular name. it’s Hebrew isn’t it?

Littleheart5 · 23/05/2020 16:18

I love it. And would be so refreshing in a sea full of Ava/Emma/Olivia/Evie/Gracie etc etc! A total classic. Don’t agree it’s similar to Angela, Janice etc. Definitely more in the Elizabeth/James/Anna style

CoachBombay · 23/05/2020 16:27

Lovely name, bonus will always get a mug or keyring with it on 😂 no breakdown in a gift shop!

Edenember · 23/05/2020 16:43

I think it’s lovely and it’s on my list incongruously surrounded by much wilder options 😂. There are a lot in my generation, but I think it’s just a lovely sound.

Edenember · 23/05/2020 16:44

I think you’d be less likely to have another Sarah in the class right now than say an Ava Evie or Olivia.

timetest · 23/05/2020 16:45

Pretty and timeless.

ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 23/05/2020 18:22

But putting yourself in the position of the next generation, it might sound very uncool and mumsy as all their mates "uncool" mums, aunties dinner ladies are all called Sarah and Becky.

Not sure that's too much of a problem when the current trend is for granny/grandad names! The more old-fashioned the better, it seems. ConfusedWink

ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 23/05/2020 18:25

And Sarah is lovely, OP! I know people of all ages, including small kids, called Sarah.
