Names you changed your mind about

...and are glad you did! Hormones, inexplicable infatuation, feeling "brave", whatever the reason what are some names that you loved but now leave you thinking Thank goodness, I didn't.

I used to adore the name Amadeus. I still like it but the adoration has died down thankfully. I'd be laughed out of town. Sabrina and Zelda, fine on their own but let's see who here grew up with 90s/00s TV...

Oh, Bláithín is another. I do NOT live in a Gaeltacht. I couldn't even tell you if it is in current use in those areas but I doubt it. 😂

I'm sure I've many more. What were your (children's) lucky escapes?

I liked Aurora for DD1 and I'm so glad I didn't call her that! There are two in her class...she's now 15 and it's just too fussy.

I also LOVED Posy but DH wouldn't have it....I do like it still but get that it's a bit much.

Other names were Femke...which is Belgian or Dutch and doesn't have anything to DO with my culture! Ha ha! I just loved it....and Tabitha which I've just gone off.

I used to like Benedict.

Until someone mentioned Bendy Dick Blush

cravingpistachiocake · 23/05/2020 20:32

My partner read a book about the French Revolution when I was heavily pregnant, and we almost called the baby Camille.

We’re not royalists, so it’s lucky we went off it Wink

Lizadork · 23/05/2020 20:38

Riviera, I had no intention of actually using it but I liked the way it looked and sounded then Katie Price named her child Jett Riviera which put me completely off any fanciful ideas.

Tootletum · 23/05/2020 20:42

Astrid. We were both keen and I think it was in some site someone pointed out the Ass playground potential.

totallyyesno · 23/05/2020 20:45

Michael. Nothing really wrong with it but it is just not a name I really like. When I was pregnant I really wanted it for ds. I blame the hormones!

formerbabe · 23/05/2020 21:03

I was pretty tempted to call my dd Melody...I don't mind it now but pleased we didn't go with it.

borntohula · 23/05/2020 22:39

Saul. I don't hate it or anything just can't imagine it on a baby now.

Edenember · 24/05/2020 03:05

Before we knew my twin boys were boys, I had my heart set on Esme and Blossom if they were girls. I’m pleased that didn’t happen.

ParkheadParadise · 24/05/2020 03:20

Katie
I have always loved that name. I nearly used it for dd1 but changed my mind at the last minute.
23 years later when dd2 came along my mum was in a carehome and one of the carers was called that. She was the most horrible bitch I have ever met. I absolutely hated her she was vile to the residents.
When dd2 was born we didn't know what we were having dh suggested this name. I nearly knocked him out. Its put me off that name for life.

mamablondie2 · 24/05/2020 16:00

Macy.

I do like it still but just prefer my daughters names so much more.

Itsagrandoldteam · 24/05/2020 16:06

Tom - for as long as I can remember I wanted to call my first son Tom. Three days after he was born we changed his name, thanks to my husbands very common surname, and all the midwifes singing "It's not unusual" and "Dalilah" to him.

whatausername · 24/05/2020 16:16

😂 itsagrandoldteam I'd have just changed the husband Wink

Jaxon. We changed our mind last minute to something more traditional and I'm thankful we did.

userabcname · 24/05/2020 16:21

Not me but DH was set on Hades for ds2! I kept telling him it was like using Satan or Lucifer but he was having none of it. Eventually he started a thread about it on Reddit where luckily everyone agreed with me. Ds2 is NOT called Hades, needless to say.

bluemoon2468 · 24/05/2020 19:00

Names I have loved previously and now am a bit like 'wtf, they're a bit' much include Ember, October and Posy for girls, and Niko, Iver and Solomon for boys.

bluemoon2468 · 24/05/2020 19:02

My husband keeps suggesting Phoenix for our baby boy due in October. I think he's going to be glad some day that I'm strongly vetoing it...

M0mmyneedswine · 24/05/2020 19:20

I really liked Paris when pregnant, glad he was a boy because ive gone totally off it now

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 24/05/2020 19:21

Bruce. At the time I thought it was a powerful, strong sounding name. DH hated it and vetoed.

Now I hear it and think 'bruise'. Glad we went with some Th ing else. It wouldn't suit DS.

TheGriffle · 24/05/2020 19:25

I loved Mabel when I was pregnant with dd1. However I was very keen to go with my ‘alternative’ spelling of Maybelle.

Thank fuck I came to my senses!

whatausername · 24/05/2020 21:58

Grin Maybelle

That reminds me. I really liked Paris as a boy's name too but it was a bit too "out there".
