Dp is trying to get me to come around to this name but I'm just not sure. What do you think?

A very ugly name.

megladon2020 · 16/05/2020 21:29

Yep so ham connection for me too so no. I had a manager in work 10 years ago with the same name who was about 60.

user1493494961 · 16/05/2020 21:58

Yes, Maxine Carr and I also think it's quite an ugly name, nothing classy about it.

SweetRuby · 16/05/2020 22:02

I think it's a nice name for someone in their forties, a baby no, sorry..

Tootletum · 16/05/2020 22:03

Maxine Carr is instantly in my head, sorry.

VisionQuest · 16/05/2020 22:07

Awful.

Victoria6386 · 16/05/2020 22:08

No

MrsCalypsoGrant · 16/05/2020 22:10

People will have different cultural references. Maxine Carr wouldn't have entered my head. I immediately thought of Maxine Peake, a fine actress.

I like the name. I also like Justine, & think that's due a comeback.

MaggieFS · 16/05/2020 22:25

Carr. Sorry. I have never heard anyone else with the name.

123Dancewithme · 16/05/2020 23:41

I prefer Maxina or Maxima.

Maybelatte · 17/05/2020 08:26

I think it’s a harsh sounding name and very 1960s, not cool. I don’t think many 1960s names are due a comeback really, Linda anyone? Barry?

Angel2702 · 17/05/2020 08:29

I like it, first thought was Stranger things not Maxine Carr.

Eminybob · 17/05/2020 08:39

I know 2 Maxines, one in her forties, the other in her twenties. They both use Max.

I think it’s quite cool. I like androgynous names on women. Feels “edgy”. Quite jealous as I have a very girly name.

Bubbletrouble43 · 17/05/2020 08:48

Sorry, same reason as Myra it has negative connotations for me.

MrsOrMiss · 17/05/2020 08:52

Maxine Carr's face popped into my head as soon as I saw the name.

Some names are synonymous with evil, that's one, another is Myra.

Cindie943811A · 17/05/2020 23:48

Myra Hindley and Maxine Carr are not in the same class. Hindley was evil and perverted and actively took part in the murders. Carr was not aware of her boyfriend’s crime until after the event. I am not excusing her actions but she is not a murderer.
Given that currently, Max is a very popular name for a boy then I think Maxine is due a come back. The only Maxine I’ve known personally was a wonderful doctor who was a great support when I was wanting to get pregnant. Maxine Peake is a great actor and supports theatre in the north.

GivenchyDahhling · 17/05/2020 23:57

My mother in law was obsessed with the name Maxine (no idea why, no family connection); from the minute I announced I was pregnant she kept calling the baby Maxine (actually, even before that as I distinctly remember her mentioning it on our wedding day).

I think of Maxine (as in Maxine and Ashley) from Coronation Street - better than Maxine Carr I suppose.

(Thankfully the baby was a boy so we didn’t have to tell her no. There’s always next time though...)

sibbys · 18/05/2020 07:36

LOVE IT! I would call my next daughter this, but my partner doesn't like the thought of me calling her max as a nn Hmm Go for it

MrsOrMiss · 18/05/2020 08:29

For you they aren't the same. For me they are.

PurpleThistles84 · 18/05/2020 08:37

I am biased but I love this name and the person I know with it loves it too. She went by Max when we were growing up as she was quite tomboyish but prefers the full Maxine now she is in her thirties. Other than her, I’ve never met another Maxine in person.

PurpleThistles84 · 18/05/2020 08:38

Meant to say, my friend had a few nn, Max, Maxi, xine (seen). It’s quite versatile really.

Malysh · 18/05/2020 09:23

I like it. Not british so the whole Carr thing doesn't really ring a bell. Also there are plenty of murderers with common names that people keep using without a second thought so I don't see why this one should be any different.

everpessimistic · 19/05/2020 10:31

Sorry I think Maxine Carr. I love the nickname max for a little girl though I think it’s adorable!

Phosphor · 19/05/2020 14:03

Some names are synonymous with evil, that's one, another is Myra.

Myra remains Myra Hess the pianist for me.

I just find Maxine a rather dated, 70s-ish sort of name -- it's with Carol, Karen, Linda etc for me. It'll no doubt come round again, but not yet.

Whatsyourflava · 19/05/2020 14:34

Maxine Carr - just no way. She's unfortunately tainted the name forever.

I like the "x" in the middle though - how about Roxanne or Roxanna? Nn Roxy?
