Clara, Elizabeth, Marguerite, Caroline are similar names.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 10/05/2020 22:08

Louisa and Flora

HeronLanyon · 10/05/2020 22:13

First three and Estelle. Others not so fond of.

Leflic · 10/05/2020 22:15

Flora. Although I prefer Fleur which isn’t on the list.

Louisa and Sophie are nice but a bit late 90’s early 2000’s.
Elena will be pronounced wrongly
Zara is s bit try hard or naff depending on whether it reminds you of the princess or the shop.
The others are a bit pointlessly vowelly.

LotusClover · 10/05/2020 22:19

Zara is my favourite, followed by Flora, Estelle and Rosalia (though I prefer Rosalie).

In fact I quite like all the names on your list.

Zana2222 · 10/05/2020 22:24

I like Zara the best

NatalieH2220 · 10/05/2020 22:34

MartiniDry · 10/05/2020 22:42

Louisa
Estella
Sophia
The first two were the names of my great grandmother and my grandmother, respectively.

Thanks for the replies, some good feedback and suggestions. DH's favourite one is Elena (Ellie as a nickname), that's the one that seems to have stuck the most so far, we keep changing our minds about the others. But we'll see.

For those of you who already have kids, did it help to see the baby when deciding if they "suit" the name? I've heard people say that a lot but tbh I think all newborns look the same...

SinisterBumFacedCat · 11/05/2020 00:11

Zara

Crookshanksthecat · 11/05/2020 01:04

I love Sophia but it's just so popular it puts me off.
Next favourite is Adalina nn Addie or Lina (I also like Addison)

Elena being called Ellie puts me off as so many kids are called Ellie.
Louisa is too eighties
Flora is the name of a spread
Aurora is too princess fairytale for me
Zara is a bit meh
Iskra sounds made up
Rosalia is ok but prefer Rosalie
Estelle/Estella - I prefer just Stella

Crookshanksthecat · 11/05/2020 01:06

I also like Elodie, Amelie and Noemi which are all very European.

Flora 😍

Tell me more about Iskra

As asked about naming we had a shortlist for #1 but she was always that name really and #2 we had two choices but had decided before they were born also. They don't really look like a name in imo they grow into it, just choose one you both love!

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 11/05/2020 01:51

Flora
Elena
Sophia

Generic European:

Lisa
Elisa

Overthinker1988 · 11/05/2020 08:34

Thanks again for the thoughts and suggestions. Yes, I did think Ellie as a nickname would fall into the too popular/trendy right now category but I do like the name...and the full name Elena isn't that common in this country, I don't think (It comes from Greek and is used in Greece, Italy, Spain, Eastern Europe and other countries.) It's the European version of Helen/Helena/Ellen. I'm not as keen on those versions though.

I'm also wondering, how would people pronounce it? (It's supposed to have the stress in the second "e" and it's a "hard" e sound but I have a feeling people would say "EL-ena" or "Eleena")

A few people have asked about or commented on Iskra...it's a Slavic name (definitely not made up!) I guess it's not that well known in the rest of Europe but not unheard of either, there's a British model called Iskra Lawrence. The name means "sparkle". DH has vetoed it though, I guess it sounds strange to a native English speaker so that's out.

I pronounce it E-lay-na.
