ve day inspired names?

our baby girl was born yesterday and we’ve decided to call her georgiana. we haven’t decided on a middle name yet though, and we’re considering using a ve day inspired name. especially as our first daughter was born on armistice day and we used poppy as a middle name to commemorate it. but we can’t think of any names! the names we’ve had suggested by family are vera (after vera lynn), winnie (after churchill - which is a definite no), or one of the top baby names of 1945. any other suggestions?

Liberty, for obvious reasons.
Odette, after Odette Sansom/Churchill/Hallowes who was a kickass British spy who was tortured by the Nazis and liberated from Ravensbruck camp.
Vera, after Vera Atkins who basically ran the SOE operations in occupied France.
Clementine after Clementine Churchill.
Elizabeth after the Queen and the Queen Mother.
Virginia, after Virginia Hall, an American woman with a false leg who was a British oh in occupied France (amazing biography called A Woman of No Importance).
Mollie, after Mollie Panter-Downes, a British journalist who wrote beautiful accounts of life in London during the Blitz for The New Yorker.
Clare, after Clare Hollingworth, the British female journalist who broke the news of the Nazi invasion of Poland when she saw the tanks rolling through.

Victoria for victory
Europa

one of the famous SOE women: Violette, Odette come to mind immediately but there's a complete list on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_female_SOE_agents

You could use either actual name or code name.

I think that would be really lovely and inspirational.

Congratulations on the safe arrival of baby Georgiana!

Screenburn · 09/05/2020 21:42

How about

Georgiana Dove
Georgiana Liberty

Knittedfairies · 09/05/2020 22:14

Georgiana Grace

helpmum2003 · 09/05/2020 22:19

Love Georgiana!

I like Hope. Simple but very meaningful and easy to understand.

Littleshortcake · 09/05/2020 22:23

I think Victoria is a great option. Congratulations

theseriousmoonlight · 09/05/2020 22:24

Congrats OP. Nothing to add other than I absolutely LOVE Georgiana. Such a gorgeous name!

@MrsJosh I meant wow- I cannot think of any except Vera either, that's really sad!

Helen after Helen Andrews a female codebreaker working at Bletchley Park. She was 17 when she started work there and is still alive - now a 94 year old Chelsea Pensioner

Andrée (anglicised to Andrea if you like) after Andrée Geulen Herscovici who smuggled Jewish children to safety. We're talking hundreds of kids.

She kept a secret record of the children's true identities, after the war she attempted to reunite them with their families if any survived.

whatausername · 09/05/2020 23:57

Oh and congratulations!Smile

IncrediblySadToo · 10/05/2020 00:03

Congratulations!🌹

Well done on the timing-especially as the eldest was born on armistice day!

I love Victoria Elizabeth

Can you change your surname to Day & drop Georgiana?

whatausername · 11/05/2020 12:37

@sunshineandshowers21 Have you made any decisions?

sunshineandshowers21 · 11/05/2020 13:38

thank you so much for the suggestions everyone! there hasn’t been one that i haven’t liked. and thank you to those who linked articles about inspirational women - that’s been my feeding reading! we think we’re going to go for Georgiana Victoria Elizabeth - but we’re still deciding whether to switch Elizabeth for Eleanor, which is my grandma’s name.

Either is beautiful Sunshine, lovely timeless names :)

Ellmau · 11/05/2020 13:52

Lovely choice either way.

NameChange84 · 11/05/2020 14:06

I’m so happy you liked my suggestion! Either E name is beautiful.

AdaColeman · 11/05/2020 14:17

Georgiana Victoria with either Elizabeth or Eleanor is a most beautiful name. Personally, I'd choose Eleanor in your Grandmother's memory.

whatausername · 11/05/2020 18:01

Love it :-) I'd pick Eleanor personally

MrsCalypsoGrant · 11/05/2020 18:09

I came along to fill in the history but I see others have sorted that! The only other suggestion from me would be Lynn (or Lynne, or Lyn) both for the obvious connection to Vera & because it's would be short middle name after a rather long first name (not sure anyone else suggested it.) My mother is named Lynne after Dame Vera & is one of many of her post-war generation. I think it's a simple underrated name & due a revival.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 14/05/2020 22:44

I was going to also say, it’s got to be Victoria. I think Victoria Elizabeth Works perfectly for what you want. Yes, it’s a long but beautiful, classic and meaningful name. Eleanor would also work nicely if that has personal significance to you.
