Thoughts? Not sure if it sounds too much like rosacea.

Is this an actual name?

Edenember · 08/05/2020 22:15

@Pieceofpurplesky ahh didn’t know that. That’s interesting.

I dont mind it actually! How are you pronouncing it? I'd probably not go for it as you constantly be explaining or correcting...
Romilly as a pp suggested is lovely.

Mucklowe · 08/05/2020 22:47

Sounds like a painful lesion!

Jessbow · 09/05/2020 07:40

If you want a normal name with those sort of sounds, please consider Rowena

Marlena1 · 09/05/2020 07:55

What about the Irish Roise (Ro-sha)? My be awkward explaining pronounciation though.

Marlena1 · 09/05/2020 08:01

Sorry I didn't see it had already been suggestedBlush

redwoodmazza · 09/05/2020 08:16

I know a Rosita in Spain.

daisypond · 09/05/2020 09:02

Rosalie?

Ineedabreak19 · 09/05/2020 09:16

I thought Rhodesia when I first saw the name and it also looks like a spelling mistake. How about Rosa?

Scruffyoak · 09/05/2020 09:17

Sounds like a skin condition!

What about Rosin? (Ro-sheen)

Ineedabreak19 · 09/05/2020 09:18

Or Rosena? I really like this as an alternative, it has its roots in Latin and Greek.

UtterFabulousness · 09/05/2020 09:56

It's too like the skin condition!

Plenty of other nice Ros- or Roe type names

Rosa
Rosalind
Rosamund
Rowen
Rosalie

Etc

Edenember · 09/05/2020 10:36

This name isn’t actually on my list... I just wondered if anyone else had heard of it and their thoughts etc. @Jessbow I adore the name Rowena, it’s one of my favourite names atm and is firmly on my shortlist.

@IdblowJonSnow I thought it would be pronounced Row-sha with the -sha as in Persia, but another poster said she believes is row-see-ah.

I think it's a Latinised Old English name, pronounced Roe -EEZ-ia. Also spelled Rohesia. Quite popular until c.15th century, I believe.

SheWranglesRugRats · 10/05/2020 19:58

Bit of a stretch to say it's a French name when it hasn't been used since like the 13th century.

SheWranglesRugRats · 10/05/2020 19:58

I did know a Rohaise once, which I thought was lovely.

HollowTalk · 10/05/2020 20:05

Rousa is a Hungarian name - pronounced Roosah.

Miriel · 10/05/2020 20:11

I too thought 'Rhodesia' without the d. I haven't seen it before, although I've come across the name Rohesia (possibly in historical fiction).

AvoidingTheWineAisle · 10/05/2020 20:17

Roise (Irish) is Roe-sha or Rosh-a depending on which bit of Ireland you’re from.

I grew up with a girl called Rosika (pronounced Roe-zhee-ka) which I thought was pretty. She was Hungarian.

Edenember · 10/05/2020 21:02

@HoratioNightboy that’s really interesting. That’s one pronounciation I hadn’t thought of at all and now you say it seems completely obvious 😂
