Nina or Iona

Currently 37 weeks pregnant! Which one is better? A couple of people have said Iona is a bit of a mouthful or don’t know how to pronounce it. Three people thought it was Loner! I like both but maybe Nina more because it is short and sweet. Husband prefers Iona. Thank you.

Iona is a pretty name. Nina means daughter in Spanish ... on any holiday to a Spanish speaking location they might think it unimaginative.

Ooo I did too @LaMarschallin. Never met anyone with that pronunciation since.

Iona for me too, i think it's so pretty.

Love Iona. Does not work with my surname though!

SionnachRua · 20/05/2020 19:35

Really don't like Iona. As an Irish person it does say institute to me, though the rest of the world won't know those backwards cranks. I also don't like the "I own a" thing or how it looks when written.

Nina is quite pretty, I'd use it.

HandfulOfFlowers · 20/05/2020 19:39

Definitely Iona, as long as your surname isn't Carr or something like that!

Peridotty · 24/07/2020 20:28

We ended up calling our little daughter Iona. Thanks everyone! X
