Verbena.
I think that it's quite nice.

I don't.

Crowbarred · 08/05/2020 08:09

Why stop there?

Hydrangea, anyone? Photinia? Agapanthus? Grin

Spirali · 08/05/2020 08:24

Okay... how are we saying it then?

ElizabethMainwaring · 08/05/2020 08:32

Vuh BEE na
I think it has a Victorian vibe.

I quite like it.

My guilty pleasure flower name is Azalea (Zalie for short).

ElizabethMainwaring · 08/05/2020 08:59

Yes, Azalea is great.
I recently worked with a French lady called Anemone.
I found that a bit of a mouthful.

Did she pronounce it to rhyme with lemon though? I know that with Penelope and Hermione they don't pronounce the E at the end so it becomes Penneh-lop and Ermy-own. It's funny, most names sound nicer in French but those ones sound terrible!

whatausername · 08/05/2020 09:05

Azalea I do rather like! It's been lowdown on my list for ages. Verbena just makes me think of Ribena. Maybe because "bena" is such a strong but not particularly common sound.

ElizabethMainwaring · 08/05/2020 09:06

Ooh, never heard that about French names.
Colleagues pronounced Anemone with an ee at the end, but I can't vouch that this was her preference.

My guilty pleasure names are Acacia, Azalea and Azura. Not a fan of Verbena, it sounds like a Microsoft Word font.

SnowdropFox · 08/05/2020 11:17

I quite like Verbena, I would pronounce it as Ver-been-ah. Nn Beanie. Does sound a little like a font as pp mentioned!

Windyatthebeach · 08/05/2020 11:18

Your dc will be known as Vagina....

Pinkarsedfly · 08/05/2020 11:20

I once met a Spanish woman called Begonia.

OhTheRoses · 08/05/2020 11:21

There are prettier more unusual ones: Marigold, Amaryllis, Primrose, Hebe imo.

CocoLoco87 · 08/05/2020 11:22

Verbena just makes me think of shower gel from L'Occitane. It's not a bad association, but I dont think of it as a person's name.

BikeRunSki · 08/05/2020 11:23

I have a colleague whose DDs are Azalea and Zinnia. Love that combo and the A to Z.

WatcherintheRye · 08/05/2020 11:24

A post yesterday (Coronavirus thread) reminded me of the little used Petunia!

daisypond · 08/05/2020 11:27

I think it’s fine. I rather like it. Also Vinca as another flower name.

Mucklowe · 08/05/2020 11:29

Isn't it pronounced VERR-benner?

eddiemairswife · 08/05/2020 11:31

I bet no-one has named their child Dandelion.

ElizabethMainwaring · 08/05/2020 11:41

My DC certainly won't be known as Vagina, as I don't have any and never will!

Lobsterquadrille2 · 08/05/2020 12:17

I know a Clematis. Her sisters have flowery names too.

KnobwithaK · 08/05/2020 12:23

I quite like Salvia.

Too much like Saliva to be practical I know, but it's still a nice name..

AcrobaticCardigan · 08/05/2020 12:25

Salvia is a mens name in Spain.
