So my partner and I are having twin boys, a life long dream! We've got the names picked out, but need help with spellings and middle names!
Finn = 100% set in stone
But we cannot decide on the spelling for
Rafe
Which one looks 'right' to you?

Rafe/ Raif/ Raef

(Pronunciation wouldn't change)

Also thinking on the middle names I'm thinking family names, Timothy maybe (after my dad) and Geoffrey (granddad)

But were thinking 2 middle names each and want other names that flow nicely!

Gosh that was long!!
Plz helps us out!!!!!Halo
(asking Mumsnet as we want to keep names a secret!!)

Rafe. But I’m not sure it goes with Finn sorry.

DoctorBambino · 07/05/2020 12:40

Rafe Geoffrey and Finn Timothy I think. Wouldn't bother with another middle name, I have two myself and it is just an annoyance when form filling!

Annieboy · 07/05/2020 12:45

@Pixilicious

We thought that initially, but we love the names so much we don't really mind.

@DoctorBambino fair enough! We were just a toying with the idea anyways.

I think Finn and Rafe sounds good.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 07/05/2020 13:07

I would probably prefer Raef.

Whatsyourflava · 07/05/2020 13:07

I think Finn and Rafe sound so perfect

Whatsyourflava · 07/05/2020 13:09

I'd definitely spell it Rafe as if you look at the statistics it's by far the most commonly used spelling so it'll be the spelling most people will assume "is it spelt Rafe?" And he can just say "yes"

Whatsyourflava · 07/05/2020 13:10

Middle names ideas:

Barnaby, Kit, Sidney, Tristan, Chester, Marley
Laurence, Rudy/Rudi, Eli
Ellis, Blake, Miles, Casper, Eric, Angus
Austin, Otto, Milo ?

Spied · 07/05/2020 13:12

Rafe

pinkpinecone · 07/05/2020 13:13

Finn is one of my favourite boys names, Rafe is great too and would go for that spelling.

I don't think it matters if you give your boys one or two middle names as they'll use them so little. I have two and like them both but they have no impact on my life in general and certainly cause no issues with form filling Grin

It's lovely to give a child middle names that have meaning or family names or just another name you love.

Annieboy · 07/05/2020 13:14

@Whatsyourflava this is one of the things we are struggling with, Rafe is simple and pronunciation wouldn't be an issue butttt,
I think it's a bit boring and I really like the look of the other spellings!

@IWouldLikeToKnow I think I agree, but my partner slightly prefers Raif and we change out minds every other day!!

@Whatsyourflava
Absolutely love Barnaby, Angus, miles and Milo especially! I'm defo suggesting those two

shittingmysel · 07/05/2020 13:17

I would prefer Finn and Ryan think they match better.

Annieboy · 07/05/2020 13:19

@pinkpinecone thank you!
I've literally been set on these names for as long as I can remember, I love other names but I always come back to these two!

I too like the idea of family middle names I think my dad would like it (although not doing it solely for that reason tho Grin)

spiderlight · 07/05/2020 13:35

Definitely Rafe - it's 'boring' because it's the most commonly used and phonetically correct, which is what everyone will assume, so I'd go with that unless you want him to have a lifetime of correcting people. Raef just looks wrong and Raif will get a strange Ra-EEF' pronunciation from some people. I think Rafe goes beautifully with Finn.

toomuchteaandcake · 07/05/2020 16:35

Rafe

finallychangedmyusername · 07/05/2020 17:10

Congrats, OP! Some ideas for middle names:

Finn Geoffrey Oscar
Rafe Timothy Isaac

Finn Ellis Geoffrey
Rafe Aaron Timothy

Finn Geoffrey Luke
Rafe Timothy Jake

Finn Geoffrey Thomas
Rafe Timothy Daniel

Finn Alexander Geoffrey
Rafe Sebastian Timothy

Finn Geoffrey Leo
Rafe Timothy Max

MikeUniformMike · 07/05/2020 17:21

Isn't it spelt Ralph?

17caterpillars1mouse · 07/05/2020 20:04

Finn and Rafe are lovely together. Geoffrey is a guilty pleasure of mine, though I prefer Jeffrey spelling

Finn Geoffrey Oliver and Rafe Timothy Samuel

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 07/05/2020 20:10

Rafe

Twisique · 07/05/2020 20:16

In Old Norse Rafe means wise council of the wolf, or something like that, often spelt Rafe rather then Ralph.

Finn Edward Geoffrey
Rafe William Timothy
Finn Laurence Timothy
Rafe Alexander Geoffrey
Finn Barnabas Timothy
Rafe Benedict Geoffrey

Malysh · 08/05/2020 00:09

The names are fine but if I heard someone say their name is Rafe I'd definitely assume it was short for Rafael/Raphaël.

Malysh · 08/05/2020 00:10

PS - spelling Rafe without hesitation

AdaColeman · 08/05/2020 00:14

Ralph, pronounced Rafe.
