Yay or ney?
I should add surname starts with a H also.
So Hunter (middle name unknown) H
My partner had his heart set on it last pregnancy and I wasnt keen. This time round he is desperate again. I dont hate it. But I also dont love it. Partially because I love more traditional names (harry, oliver etc)
We currently have, George, Charlie (previous marriage) and Teddy

Opinions welcome, also middle name suggestions...

Just reminds me of killing animals.Sad

SkaLaLand · 07/05/2020 19:08

Gosh, such vitriol. I have a Hunter Patrick who came after his brother who has a traditional biblical name and they go well.

Nothing wrong with it op but if it's not for you it's not for you.

Janaih · 07/05/2020 19:12

I think it's an ok name, my dd has always been a bit miffed at having alitereated name and surname though (HH)

FeedMeSantiago · 07/05/2020 20:25

It makes me think of killing animals too. Not an association I would want with my child. Then you've got the hunt rhyming issue.

Is Teddy just Teddy, or Edward/Theodore known as Teddy?

Charlie, George, Teddy and Hunter don't really go.

You could go with any classic name - Henry/Harry/Thomas/James/William etc. and it would go with the existing boys names.

You could also go for slightly less common names - Patrick, Alistair, Asa, Josiah, Saul etc. that aren't 10 a penny names for him, but have enough tradition behind them for you.

Would he compromise on something like Asher or Archer?

JohnnyJohnnyYesMama · 07/05/2020 20:47

Someone I know has a son called Hunter and the surname Childs Hmm

Don't think they thought that through Grin

missmouse101 · 07/05/2020 20:55

OP asked for opinions! Hardly vitriol to say what your opinion is, SkaLaland!

BlueGreenYellowRed · 07/05/2020 21:10

Awful - animal death connotations and too American.

But more importantly - you can't name your child something that one of you dislikes! You'll resent it forever. You need to veto it and find another name that you both like, even if neither of you are passionate about it.

CherryPavlova · 07/05/2020 21:20

It’s a good name for a wellington boot.

donquixotedelamancha · 07/05/2020 21:25

How about something with a similar style?

Trojan
Hawk
Laser
Wolf
Rhino
Ace
Raider
Shadow
Vulcan

tararabumdeay · 07/05/2020 21:37

You are the mother. His egg was in you before you were born. You get to choose - subtly of course.

Namechange8471 · 08/05/2020 09:54

It’s a name with negative connotations to me . Where I think of hunter:

Rapist
Paedophile (as in paedophile Hunter)
Shooting animals for fun.

I am aware this is just my opinion of course 😂

chunkyrun · 08/05/2020 09:58

What about Hudson? I think some people could carry off hunter but they might be more reserved and mellow

Thisismytimetoshine · 08/05/2020 10:14

You really shouldn't give your child a name that you have to hope they'll be able to carry off...

JKScot4 · 08/05/2020 10:23

Hunters Chicken
Hunty cunty
The meaning alone puts me off anyway, I’m a bit Hmm at your DH getting inspiration from WWE.

june2007 · 08/05/2020 16:21

Seriously someone is suggesting Rhino as a better alterative?

Headbangersandmash · 08/05/2020 16:26

HH is fine. I have a Harrison known as Harry so my taste is closer to yours. Hunter is just so different to the other boy names.

Hunter makes me think of Gladiators. It's not a reference that kids will know these days but it puts me off. I think that it will be a burden to have a name like that if you're not an active outdoorsy sort of person.

JKScot4 · 08/05/2020 16:27

@june2007
I think that’s a joke, names of Gladiators from the old tv show 🤣

Headbangersandmash · 08/05/2020 16:28

I agree with the person who said the first 4 letters are too close to cunt. You might need someone with the surname Hunter to confirm this though.

Just checking that he's not suggesting Hunter Hunter because that would be ridiculous.

wombandovaries · 08/05/2020 16:28

Hunter is a labradors name. Time to back out of the deal! Could you relegate it to the middle name?

RJnomore1 · 08/05/2020 16:31

I love hunter and if I had a son I would have called him that, but it’s an old family name for us (my dad had an uncle hunter)

SarahTTCx · 08/05/2020 16:50

I don't mind it but it's definitely very American sounding which doesn't massively appeal to me! It's not bad though, I could think of much worse. HH isn't bad for initials.

RJnomore1 · 08/05/2020 16:57

As a Celtic fan HH quite appeals too 😁

em90792 · 09/05/2020 06:53

@Headbangersandmash no no, not Hunter Hunter. That would be ridiculous.

Surname is Hicks.

He is really dragging his feet. He said if I can find an alternative name he likes he would consider it as a middle name. That's basically impossible, as I learnt when we were naming Teddy. He hates every other name. I dont know if it's because hes being difficult or if he genuinely does.

I'm so stuck, I dont hate the name. There are names I dislike more. But I am concerned about the points made, and also I just dont know if I'm that keen. He is not going to back down! I've sent through so many names to him and I just get no after every list.
