Boris used our boys names - HELP

Maybelatte · 03/05/2020 08:02

Obviously lighthearted to an extent but Wilfred was the only boys name DH and I agreed on and now I feel as though we can’t use it because people will draw parallels. We’re not Bojo fans at all so it’s honestly the last thing we want!

We liked Rupert until I remembered Murdoch and it put me off. We already have two DS’s called Edward and Jude to give you an idea of taste. We’re set on Clementine for a girl so hopefully it’s a girl Grin.

I’m due in July- HELP!

Pinkfrangipani · 03/05/2020 08:05

How about Alfred?

mathanxiety · 03/05/2020 08:08

I would go ahead and use it. Boris might not even be PM by July, certainly not by the time your baby goes to school.

Who thinks of Tony Blair when they hear the name Leo?

Though Alfred is a nice alternative.
Maybe Frederick?

Puppybum · 03/05/2020 08:09

Boris has done your son a massive favour, Wilfred!!

EmbarrassedUser · 03/05/2020 08:10

So? I see no problem here. If you like it then use it.

Kitchendoctor · 03/05/2020 08:16

I don’t think people will draw parallels, they’ll be struggling to remember his name in a few weeks.

BobbyBlueCat · 03/05/2020 08:16

So?

Just use it for heaven's sake.

Chocolatecake12 · 03/05/2020 08:17

Love your existing boys names.
Wilfred isn’t in the sane league as them!
How about
William
Henry
Oscar
Isaac
Peter
Leon
Joseph
Stanley
Felix
Benjamin
Toby
Samuel
Joel
Saul
Callum
Robert

Maybelatte · 03/05/2020 08:17

I don’t mind Alfred but I really dislike Alfie and I feel like it’s bound to be shortened to that.

I don’t think anyone would make the connection by the time he started school but definitely think we’d have a few ‘oh like Boris’ baby’ after he was born which really deters me!

OP posts:
Dinosauraddict · 03/05/2020 08:23

It would deter me too, OP. We've just had a DS and I was desperately hoping he wasn't going to choose the same (traditional but fairly rare MC name) as what we'd gone for!

Joffrey · 03/05/2020 08:23

Alfred could be shortened to Fred/Freddie or Al?

Other ideas:
Quentin
Elliott
Sidney
Christopher
Jonathan
Julian
Andrew
Michael
Oliver
Percy
Henry
Timothy
Robert
Gabriel
Benjamin
Peter
Eric
Dominic
Roderick
Nathaniel
David
Hector
Thomas
Lucien
Samuel
Vincent
Victor
Joseph
Stanley
Gregory
Evan
James
Francis
Miles
Daniel
Phillip
Alexander
George
Hugo
Hugh
Louis
Edwin
Wilbur
Willem
Tobias
Jasper
Caspar
Theodore

TheoriginalLEM · 03/05/2020 08:24

It would put me off too. If i had a boy with DD, it would have been Leon.

I actually love the name Ptolomy but don't think I'd have been brave enough.

I'd go with William shortened to wills.

NameChange30 · 03/05/2020 08:28

Sorry but I agree with PuppyBum!

I like Chocolate's list (in fact my DS's name, which is rarely suggested, is on it Smile)

Chefwifelife · 03/05/2020 08:29

Solidarity too @Maybelatte this was also in our top two boys names. We’re due the end of August. It also doesn’t help that our surname is nearly identical Hmm

cacaca · 03/05/2020 08:32

Nobody will connect the two. Boris’ son will generally not grow up in the public eye unlike royalty. You very rarely saw the Cameron children when their dad was pm.

Soontobe60 · 03/05/2020 08:33

Unfortunately for the poor children, Wilfred will be extremely common for boys born between now and the next few months. I say unfortunate, because who wants to be lumbered with the name a complete buffoon has chosen for his latest offspring? Apart from that, its an awful name and ripe for teasing as he will be called Willy when he pops off to Elton.

How about Albert? Can be shortened to Albie, Allie or Bertie.

daisypond · 03/05/2020 08:34

I think Wilfred is fine. Or you could look at:
Walter
Gilbert
Robert
Roland

Missmonkeypenny · 03/05/2020 08:35

I have a Reuben Jude Smile Other suggestion for him were Eli and Kit

Reginabambina · 03/05/2020 08:36

Are your friends and family boris fans? Or maybe daily mail readers? I had no idea that they’d even name their child yet let alone what name they chose. Surely most people don’t?

MamaTo7 · 03/05/2020 08:43

What about Wesley or Wyatt? I don't think it matters. I have an Arabella which is Donald Trumps grand daughters name (I can't stand him, sorry.) But it's never been associated with that and I still love her name just as much. Smile

Thewheelsarefallingoff · 03/05/2020 08:47

How about Wilbur?

zigaziga · 03/05/2020 08:50

I don’t think it matters all that much and it’s a nice name.

Alfred I’d have the same concerns over as you. Yes, it can be Fred or Freddie and you can make sure you never use the nickname Alfie but they’re inevitably going to become Alfie and that’s not ideal.

dottiedodah · 03/05/2020 08:54

I see what you mean ,but no one "owns" a name and these things happen a lot .When I was born ,a famous family named their daughter the same name as me .Mum was always being asked if I had been named "after" her ,but I was a few months older!

SpillTheTeaa · 03/05/2020 09:17

Barnaby?

Chloemol · 03/05/2020 09:18

Wilfred can be shortened to wilf , Fred, Freddie, Wilfie , Will, Willie or any other combination. However if you like it use it

DodgyTrousers · 03/05/2020 09:20

Ridiculous post.

So what if the PM has used a name you also like .

Biscuit
