Love the name Charlotte and Lottie, can’t decide between them. But DH says if we went for Lottie it would be spelt Lotte. Is it pronounced the same??

Lotte is Lott a

Pinkblueberry · 01/05/2020 19:48

I’ve never seen Lottie spelt at Lotte. Lotte is quite an old fashioned German shortening of Charlotte - pronounced ‘Sharlottuh’, so Lotte is Lot-tuh. I would just spell it Lottie to avoid a lifetime of confusion.

Didicat · 01/05/2020 19:52

Lot I think, if I knew the name was lottie, I would add and I in automatically

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 01/05/2020 19:58

Ah yes the previous danish post is better. 🇩🇰

purplecorkheart · 01/05/2020 20:00

When I hear the name I think of the song from Phantom of the opera and pronoun its a lot ee

YakkityYakYakYak · 01/05/2020 20:06

I would be unsure on pronunciation but would have guessed at LOT. My DD has a name that can be pronounced a couple of different ways, it drives me mad having to correct people. I would have picked another name had I foreseen the issue.

amber763 · 01/05/2020 20:08

I'd pronounce it Lot

Etcni · 01/05/2020 20:09

Lott-uh/Lotta

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 01/05/2020 20:12

Lottie. Like Little Lotte.

cluelessmop · 01/05/2020 20:12

tiredanddangerous · 01/05/2020 20:15

Gooseysgirl · 01/05/2020 20:40

I know a Lotte and she is originally from Germany, pronounces it Lotta

TeddyBeans · 01/05/2020 20:58

I'd pronounce it Lotta as well

Wheresthebiffer2 · 01/05/2020 21:00

Choose Charlotte.

Cindie943811A · 01/05/2020 21:32

My German friend’s second name is Charlotte which she pronounces Char-lotuh son Lotte would be Lotuh.
Just go for Charlotte and call your daughter Lottie as her nn

Namechangex10000 · 01/05/2020 21:41

I would hazard a guess and pronounce it lottie, but in my eyes it definitely says “lot” and I would think the spelling was ridiculous

TheRoyallingStones · 01/05/2020 22:12

The Lotte I know is pronounced Lotta

It’s a lovely name but if you want Lottie (also a lovely nickname) then I would spell it Lottie.

eurochick · 01/05/2020 22:14

That makes no sense. If "lotte" were pronounced "lottie" Charlotte would be pronounced "Charlottie". It's not. Your husband is wrong.

perfumeistooexpensive · 01/05/2020 22:16

Lottie is short for Charlotte. Call her Charlotte and then you have the choice. Lotte would be a bit confusing here.

seven201 · 01/05/2020 22:24

If I saw that on a class register I'd guess Lot.

BlueBooby · 01/05/2020 22:27

I read it as "Lot".

Lampan · 01/05/2020 22:53

As a name, I would automatically think ‘Lott-a’. As a word written down though, I automatically read it as ‘Lott-ay’ like the corporation Lotte is pronounced (though I guess that’s not so well known in Europe so not an issue!)

Rubywhox · 01/05/2020 23:07

Lotta

NameChange84 · 01/05/2020 23:09

Lotte = Lot-uh
