Like the sound and it’s pretty but can’t get over the ‘vibe’ of the name - seems a bit flimsy and a name you need to look good for, and the kind aspirational parents use that lacks substance. Also can’t get over the goddess she slept with dwarves to get her necklace. Want to like it what does everyone else think especially of the dwarves connotation does it matter?

I know a few little girls called Freya, I only see it as a baby name tbh. I’m not overly keen, I think it’s in the same category as the really popular names now such as, Lily, Maisie, Ella, Olivia

Mumof1andacat · 25/04/2020 09:42

Yes is in the popular set along with the above posters set of names. I worked in a department of a children's hospital and I saw I few come through as patients in the last 5 years.

I really don’t think a fictional story about some dwarves should bother you. It’s a gorgeous name - but you seemed to have talked yourself out of it. There’s no point in wanting to like a name imo - either you like it or you don’t!

I've got a Freya. I see it as a strong name: norse goddess who chooses half the warriors slain in war. Travels in a chariot drawn by cats.

The shagging dwarves (I thought it was elves) story DEFINITELY doesn't matter - gods and goddesses did all kind of shit. What matters is whether you like the name Smile

I have always loved the name Freya, and I almost used it for my DD1. It's soft and delicate but I've never thought of it as "flimsy". It's quite popular at the moment but it seems to have more substance than a lot of other popular names like Evie, Ellie, Ava etc. If you like it, go for it!

I like it, it's got very popular here in NZ. I wouldn't worry about the goddess story most people don't know them 😊.

Such a pretty name

Wheresthebiffer2 · 25/04/2020 13:04

Phreya is an alternate spelling I have seen. I think it is very pretty.

I don't think of it as a strong name.
I don't hate it. But I wouldn't use it

itsemily17 · 26/04/2020 11:59

I love it so so much but it doesn’t work with our surname. Go for it :)

I like it. Think it's nice for a little one and a woman
