I love Miriam personally. But doesn’t fit us as a family sadly.

Seraphina is not 'the feminine form of a biblical name'. It's a girls' name derived from a Hebrew word for a kind of angel, not a name. There are other names people sometimes used based on Greek and Hebrew words from the Bible, rather than biblical names: Hosanna, Anastasia, Zoe, even Catherine.

No-one ever mentions dear Mary. I like Mary.

Delilah! Nobody has mentioned DELILAH!

PhoenixBuchanan · 26/04/2020 04:38

I agree with whoever said Jezebel, it's actually a fantastic name. Shame it's unusable!

I named DD Jemima, but sometimes wish I had chosen Keziah.

I love all the classic female names but some of my other favourite obscure ones are Tamar and Keturah. I think Judith and Deborah are gorgeous and due for a comeback without the nicknames Judy and Debbie.

FartnissEverbeans · 26/04/2020 05:30

My absolute favourite is Sarai (pronounced suh-RYE).

I like Damaris, Delilah Susannah and Dinah as well. I think Tamar counts as Biblical as well.

After over 50 years as a Ruth I am over it even if the woman I am named after was just lovely.

However, I always wished I was Esther (would never have worked, single or married) and I was at a wedding next to an Afra once which I have since always thought interesting.

Wasn't there a Miriam in the Abbey Girls books. I liked that, too I might have liked an Anne except I was determined not to use any family named.

Mumma4262 · 27/04/2020 16:14

I have a relative with the middle name Hephzibah.

It’s pronounced as it’s written. I don’t like it though.

SageRosemary · 27/04/2020 16:27

We used Ruth and Mary as middle names. Rachel or Eve might have been next.

Mucklowe · 27/04/2020 20:59

Naomi
Esther
Ruth

We're Jewish, and currently trying to name our baby girl from the Old Testament/Torah. Those three are in the running, and I'm trying to convince DH to consider Tzipporah. Not having much luck!

merryhouse · 27/04/2020 21:07

lots that have already been said
Priscilla
Dorcas
Susanna

ChateauMyself · 27/04/2020 21:10

Deborah - kickass prophet and judge (v big deal). Only other was Samuel. Also went into battle. Pretty cool pre-monarchy lady.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/04/2020 13:36

Rahab or Hagar?!

Martha and Keziah are lovely - I'm presuming it would be pronounced Ke-ZIE-uh rather than KEY-zsuh?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/04/2020 13:40

I wonder if Judge Reinhold has an older brother called Joshua and a younger sister called Ruth - and he dropped the 's' at the end to make it sound snappier Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/04/2020 13:40

Rhoda?

TheOtherSideOfTheMountain · 28/04/2020 13:40

Ruth
