Not much scope for a nn as a dc...
Bit much for a baby!!
Wilfred nn Wilf(ie)
Love Caspar(ian) nn Cass.

MrsBricked · 24/04/2020 20:19

Your other names seem to match in style more with each other Winston seems the odd one out? I love Rafferty and Digby

Jossina · 24/04/2020 20:26

Winston: LOVE it

Other names we had considered was

Wilfred: nice but somewhat over done?
Rafferty: no
Digby: not bad at all
Barnaby: like it
Selwyn: hate it
Oscar: nice but also maybe over done?
Edmond: also like Edmund
Caspian: eh, so so
Rupert: LOVE it
Cuthbert: like it a lot

bridgetreilly · 24/04/2020 20:32

I like Barnaby and Oscar better. Winston makes quite a statement as a name - Churchill and/or 1984.

PenfoldsFive · 24/04/2020 20:36

Barnaby is my favourite out of your list.

Flymetothestars · 24/04/2020 20:38

As Winston is pretty unusual you mainly hear it in connection to Churchill and it’s just too connected to “Conservative party” for me. Maybe you like that connection though.

Love Barnaby Wilfred Oscar . Barnaby favourite

Beanybop · 24/04/2020 20:42

Winston sounds like a dog, your other names sound like posh dogs. Digby is the best of the lot IMO. (Sorry if that sounds harsh, I found that when someone said what they honestly thought about names I liked it either made me realise they were correct or love it more in defiance!)

MikeUniformMike · 24/04/2020 21:15

I think Winston is a terrific name. It is miles better than most of the names on your list.

MikeUniformMike · 24/04/2020 21:18

I love the name Winston (just in case you missed my pp)

Wilfred - ok
Rafferty - awful
Digby - yes
Barnaby - yes, like it a lot
Selwyn - Froggatt. No.
Oscar - use it for a cat
Edmond
Caspian

MikeUniformMike · 24/04/2020 21:19

oops.

Edmond - Edmund is the usual spelling. Like it. Redmond is pretty cool.
Caspian - like

Fiflowertot · 24/04/2020 21:52

Winston does sound like a dogs name, might be because I know two dogs with that name.
Out of the names you’ve mentioned I adore Oscar, maybe a tad too popular depending where you live. Barnaby is lovely too.

Whatsyourflava · 24/04/2020 21:58

Yes Winston a very right wing name to me. If it were used more frequently I don’t I’d think that. But it isn’t. Laurence Fox’s son is called Winston!
Again, very right wing! Unusable for me sadly.
Love Barnaby Oscar and Wilfred

Theyweretheworstoftimes · 24/04/2020 21:58

Walter?
Edmund?

HeavyDeuty · 24/04/2020 22:15

I know a lovely little Winston whose nn is Winnie. Initially I wasn't sure but it suits him and he owns it Smile

Positevibes · 24/04/2020 22:21

I love it ❤️

Puppybum · 24/04/2020 22:21

Oh dear lord. I hope you live somewhere posh. Selwyn? As in Selwyn Froggitt?

SylvanianFrenemies · 24/04/2020 22:32

How about Wesley?

babynamelover · 24/04/2020 22:35

I prefer Wilfred,Barnaby, Rafferty or Caspian to Winston but it's okay. Here in NZ it's very highly linked to a member of parliament who's a current leader of a political party.

Positevibes · 24/04/2020 22:45

I also love Barnaby but my OH does not Hmm

Whatsyourflava · 24/04/2020 22:50

Problem with nickname Winnie is that it’s getting increasingly common as a girls’ name because of supermodel Winnie H. It’s still pretty unusual but on a massive upsurge the last 2 years, if that is of any interest

lightningmcqueen20 · 25/04/2020 07:22

Thank you to everyone who commented, I'm not sure how to reply individually.

Definitely not to harsh, I would rather hear peoples honest opinions.

My husband really likes Winston and I really like Barnaby, we are at an almost stalemate.

I appreciate these names aren't for everyone.

Barnaby is gorgeous ! And so underused!
I’ve had a few friends in your position and after the DH sees the partner go through childbirth they then “compromise” on the wife’s choice. Fingers crossed
