Legal name change

We would like to legally give our child a middle name after a loved one passed. Can anyone recommend how to go about doing this? Child is just over one so can’t do it on birth certificate. We don’t want to use a company and then find out it doesn’t mean anything legally? Anyone had any first hand experience with this. Many thanks, Kim.

Why not give yourself the middle name? Seems odd to change the child's name as if they were an extension of someone else. The kid is their own person with their own identity. About the only circumstances I can see in which it would be acceptable is if the child were about a week old. Even then I'd still find it incredibly odd. I initially thought this was a troll thread but perhaps you are just very deeply grieving.

There will be another way to honour your loved one.

find a different way to honour a loved one.

Perhaps a bench in honour of loved one? You can even "name a star" nowadays, that'd be sweet :)?

Otherwise Deed poll?

I’m not going into the why’s but it’s what we have decided to do as a family and I didn’t ask opinions. How do I go about deed poll? There seems to be lots of websites but how to know which ones are legitimate? Thanks to those actually answering my question.

Royal Courts of Justice. It costs £36.
