Edward?

I posted earlier for help with boys names. I love Edward but the popularity really put me off. I had some responses saying it was on a downward move in the name stats and not many knew of little Edwards.

I really like the possible nns Ed, Eddy, Ned and my favourite, Woody!

Do you think of this lovely classic as very popular? To be honest, I think it was only my perceived popularity that put me off the name.

I would love to hear your thoughts/how many little E's you know of?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DramaAlpaca · 14/04/2020 21:56

I only know one, he's a teenager known as Eddy. I really like it.

Wolfgirrl · 14/04/2020 21:57

There were a couple at school (I'm late 20s). I've met one baby Eddie.

I like names that are in moderate use - means there isnt loads of them, but equally people know how to spell/pronounce it.

Good choice.

PeskyRooks · 14/04/2020 21:58

I only know one Edward he is 3. I think it's a lovely classic name and as you said scope for loads of nicknames depending on what suits, my personal favourite being Ted!

EthelMayFergus · 14/04/2020 22:03

Love it. I only know one, he's 14 and known as Ted.

Meltedwellie · 14/04/2020 22:20

Lovely choice. I like it.

MikeUniformMike · 14/04/2020 22:27

It's great but Teddy is too popular and Ned is awful

Eddy and Ed are fine.

MikeUniformMike · 14/04/2020 22:28

Woody is also a no. google it.

ofwarren · 14/04/2020 22:28

I don't like it sorry
It's all just personal choice though because there is nothing weird or wrong with the name. I just don't like the sound of it.

Ineedabreak19 · 14/04/2020 22:42

I know of 6 Edwards aged between 3 to 10 all nick named Teddy so it's a no from me.

However, Christopher with the nick name Kit is really cool. Or Sebastian with nn Seb or Bastian.

Jossina · 14/04/2020 23:25

I prefer Edmund, but two of my favourite English kings were Edwards...

thistimelastweek · 14/04/2020 23:28

Love it.
Edward, Ed, Eddie, Ted. Love them all.

TeetotalKoala · 14/04/2020 23:34

I know three.
8 year old is always known as Edward
6 year old is both Edward and Eddie
3 year old is always known as Teddy

I think it's a lovely name.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 14/04/2020 23:41

I like it.
I don't know any Edward's who are under age 50yrs.

123Dancewithme · 14/04/2020 23:43

I know quite a few young ones. I think a lot of people are using it to get the Ted/Teddy nn.

I like Edward but prefer it shortened to Eddie.

Astronica · 15/04/2020 00:03

Love it, and don't know any. I love Woody as a nn, and also love Ted and Ned.

Umnoway · 15/04/2020 11:10

It’s my youngest’s name so obviously I’m biased, lovely name. We never shorten it.

Cahu58 · 15/04/2020 11:13

Love it especially Eddy!

Whatsyourflava · 15/04/2020 13:06

Edward is lovely. Don’t know any
Yes it’s on a massive downward trajectory so much less common than it used to be. Look up the stats if you’re interested xx

peperethecat · 15/04/2020 13:10

I really like Edward but please don't call your child Woody! At best it is a dog's name and at worst it is a slang word for an erect penis.

Finnemoo · 15/04/2020 13:16

I only know a couple. It’s lovely, a solid classic and not that popular I don’t think. Ned is great. I have to admit I’m not mad keen on Woody but as a nickname why not?

Buyitinbamboo · 15/04/2020 13:17

I love Edward. Wanted to call DS it but DP wasnt keen so we have a slightly different name which is shortened to Eddie

emmathedilemma · 15/04/2020 13:33

I don't think I know any other than one who's about 50. Can't even think of any friends of friends sort of connections.....

CaffiSaliMali · 15/04/2020 16:37

I know two children called Edward, one is about 14 and the other about 6. It's a nice name, but I prefer Edmund.

Woody is awful as others have pointed out. It will attract jokes at school. Ed, Ted and Ned are much nicer. Or just Edward even.

KateF · 15/04/2020 18:27

I like it. I know three under two's. One is known as Edward, the other two as Teddy.

Aber9 · 15/04/2020 19:15

Brilliant name.
