Have I lost my locked down hormonal mind?

Nearly at the finishing line and we still don't have a name. Not keen on spelling it Juliana either.

Thoughts?

Assuming you are not italian or in Italy, why set your DD up for a lifetime of having her name written as Juliana or Guliana?

Parker231 · 14/04/2020 17:40

Are you Italian or living in Italy?

mininionsteve · 14/04/2020 17:48

No just like the name. My name is French and I'm not from there either so it's not particularly a problem, I'm forever correcting people.

It's considered quite frumpy in Italy, and it's a diminutive of Giulia.
I only know one and she's in her sixties.

Julie is due a comeback IMO. Especially said with a soft French accent.

mininionsteve · 14/04/2020 17:57

Interesting @TheCanterburyWhales so it's a bit of an old lady name?

Not a huge fan of Julie. Have spent the last 8 and a half months not liking any names at all.

TheCanterburyWhales · 14/04/2020 18:27

It is yes. But I love old lady names!

MikeUniformMike · 14/04/2020 18:28

I think Julie is pretty but other than someone who's first language is French I can't think of any young ones.

mininionsteve · 14/04/2020 18:39

@TheCanterburyWhales I do enjoy an old lady name too. Just struggling by to find "the" name.

Know a few Julies over 50 that put me right off that name.

Juliette as an alternative?

daisypond · 14/04/2020 18:43

I know a young Julie (mid 20s) whose real name is Juliana - could be Julianne - but she much prefers and goes by Julie.

CherryBakebadly · 14/04/2020 18:43

Just makes me think of Guylian chocolates

AJTracey · 14/04/2020 18:45

Rancic

z0fl0ra · 14/04/2020 18:47

I much prefer Julia to Julie or Juliana and think it makes a better young person name as well as suiting them also when they’re older!

suggestionsplease1 · 14/04/2020 18:47

Makes me think of Rudy Giuliani in America - I'm not a huge fan of his! However, I don't think that will be too common an association, especially not in time.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 14/04/2020 18:47

We have a Giulia in the family. She is half Italian.

mininionsteve · 14/04/2020 18:49

Thanks @Raera fair point Grin

Back to the drawing board I go...

I know an adult Julia with two Italian parents. But she was born and lives in the UK and her name is spelled the British way.

PigletJohn · 14/04/2020 21:15

English people usually don't know how to pronounce Guila or Guilietta. I expect Guiliana will be the same.

PigletJohn · 14/04/2020 21:17

looks like I don't even know how to spell them Blush

reefedsail · 14/04/2020 21:19

I love it said aloud, however I think I’d spell it Juliana in this country.

It’s great though OP, and I like the nn Jules.

Divebar · 14/04/2020 21:19

I’m one of them.... I would have no idea how to pronounce it. ( i take it it’s a “ Ju” sound ?). I do think Juliette is lovely though.

PigletJohn · 14/04/2020 21:34

"Giulia" should be pronounced "Julia"

near enough

But here, often "goo-lya" as most English people don't know any Italian. I only know one now.

MikeUniformMike · 14/04/2020 21:37

Your typos is what will happen. PigletJohn.
I remember when everyone wore Gorgio. (Giorgio).

We used to write letters in those days.

mininionsteve · 14/04/2020 22:12

@reefedsail that's the thing I love it said out loud. The spelling is the thing. DH likes the Italian spelling but I think everyone is right and it might just be too confusing.
