Hi there,

Long time lurker but first time posting!

I currently have Aoife and Fionn and am pregnant with DC3. We’d like to choose a name for both genders as we haven’t found out the sex but struggling for ideas.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be Irish although it would likely go better with our other two - we live in England though so would like it to work over here Smile.

Thanks very much

Siun (fada on the u)
Siofra
Maeve

Cormac
Diarmuid
Lorcan

IVflytrap · 14/04/2020 01:12

Orla
Fia
Niamh
Aisling
Roisín
Saoirse
Ciara
Cara

Conor
Oisín
Liam
Ciaran
Cian
Cillian
Darragh
Tadhg

I've gone with names that some English people should either recognise or (hopefully) be able to figure out without too much difficulty... Tadhg may be the exception there, but included because I like it. Smile

Rubybluesy · 14/04/2020 01:14

Rionach
Nuala
Enya

NuffSaidSam · 14/04/2020 11:45

I like Niamh and Maeve.

And Eoin.

emmathedilemma · 14/04/2020 12:12

I like Niamh and Maeve and I think people will be familiar in the pronunciation of them. I'm afraid I've idea how to pronounce your other 2 girls names!
I'm not a fan of your boys names list, I like most of the ones @IVflytrap
suggested although the pronunciation of Tadhg has floored me!!

mamablondie · 14/04/2020 12:25

I agree Niamh and Maeve would work for girls! Other ideas:

Siobhan
Ciara (though there are some alternative spellings of this - very annoying as someone who is Irish!)
Saoirse is gaining some popularity thanks to the actress Saoirse Ronan, I think it’s beautiful!

Boys: Colm, Ciaran, Eoin, Patrick

CaffiSaliMali · 14/04/2020 12:32

Ooh Aoife and Fionn are gorgeous names.

Niamh, Orla, Saoirse, Caoimhe came to mind for girls. I went to school with a very fierce Caoimhe and everyone managed to pronounce it! Same with Saoirse who was Caoimhe's younger sister.

Tadgh, Eoin, Oisín and Cillian came to mind for boys.

Thank you very much everyone!

Interestingly my name is Maeve so it’s nice to know people think it works well! I do like Tadgh for a boy.

I wondered about Fia but thought it might be a bit of a mouth full with Aoife and Fionn, what do you think?

I’ve always loved Anna and it is used in Ireland but do you think it’d go with my other two?

Thanks again Smile

Eilís for a girl
Lorcan
Declan for a boy

LightACandleHoney · 14/04/2020 15:14

Cormac for a boy and Áine for a girl. Both easy to spell and easy to pronounce but still clearly Irish

wtftodo · 14/04/2020 15:17

I love some already mentioned eg Niamh...

How about:
Ailbhe
Eithne
Mairead

Aidan
Oisin
Malachy

sickofhim · 14/04/2020 16:00

Kerill is my brother's middle name

Alwaysundecided · 14/04/2020 16:57

I love your DC's names. Fia is too much with Fionn and Aoife I think.
I love Ciara and Orla for girls and Rory Cillian or Aran for boys. Aran being named after the Aran islands which I think are beautiful.
Rowan would work nicely too with your other names.

Crazykat21 · 14/04/2020 19:03

Love Saoirse & Caoimhe. I also love Aoibhín.

Boys names that work well would be Darragh, Oisín, Liam, or Tadgh,

OhMargo · 14/04/2020 19:08

Such lovely names there. I am Irish but haven't lived there for a long time. Home now in the lockdown and loving the suggestions.

FWIW Aoibheann and Ailbhe (pronounced Aveen and Alva) are my favourites.

Conor or Dara/Darragh for a boy.

123Dancewithme · 14/04/2020 20:03

A friend of mine (Irish but lives in England) has a Fiadh and a Dubhghall

Aine
Aisling
Briege
Eilis
Saoirse
Sorcha
Roisin
Oona
Saraid

Aodhan
Cillian
Eoin
Rian
Seamus
Lochlainn
Malachy
Lorcan
Oran
Ronan
Tiernan/Tiarnan
Senan
Torin

Keyperfect · 14/04/2020 23:36

Anna is beautiful and goes very nicely with Aoife and Fionn. I would go with that if you love the name!

Mumma4262 · 15/04/2020 09:01

I love Aine and Saoirse for girls!

HarrietM87 · 15/04/2020 12:02

I don’t think you can have Fiadh with Aoife and Fionn - it’s like Aoife backwards and too many Fs!

I’m considering Sinead and Ailbhe. Don’t know but suspect I’m having a girl. If it’s a boy I love Patrick and Ferdia. Also Iarla but it’s totally mangled by an English accent (same reason I’d never do Orla - awla is awful!)

HarrietM87 · 15/04/2020 12:10

@OhMargo Aoibheann is not pronounced Aveen - it’s Eve-an (Eavan is the anglicised spelling).

If you want Aveen you need to spell it Eibhin (or there are probably variants).

JoeExoticandtheTigers · 15/04/2020 13:30

I've a Sean
Padriaig (no one can pronounce it so they call him Paddy)
Bridget and a Roisin.

Yippity · 15/04/2020 13:33

Aine would be lovely for a girl.
