Dylan or Theo?

Just that really! Our favourite names for DS2 are either Dylan or Theo. Looking for opinions on either/both. What do you think of when you hear them? Boys names are tricky I think!

Dylan for me, it's a good strong name. Theo is everywhere at the moment, and I think it's a bit wishy-washy.

Orphlids · 08/04/2020 16:52

I agree that Theo is a little wishy-washy. Good way of putting it. Perfectly pleasant, but leaves no impact. I like Dylan. I’ve heard a few people describe it as chavvy, but I’ve never thought so. Just makes me think of Bob Dylan, nice and bohemian.

LuluBellaBlue · 08/04/2020 16:53

Theo! Much prefer it

DramaAlpaca · 08/04/2020 16:54

Oh, and I meant to say, I like Dylan pronounced both the Welsh and the English way.

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2020 16:54

Dylan! Much stronger and more unusual, but everyone knows it.

LilyE1234 · 08/04/2020 16:58

I like Theo, I just hate it when people are lazy and pronounce it Feo

ColdTapwater · 08/04/2020 17:05

Dylan! Theo is so popular and a bit, Meh..

MikeUniformMike · 08/04/2020 17:09

I dislike Dylan. Theo is better than Dylan, but is overused.

Whatsyourflava · 08/04/2020 17:35

LOVE both. Slight preference for Theo but both so gorgeous you can’t go wrong

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/04/2020 17:36

Theo is lovely and gentle, yet masculine at the same time. I agree with pp that Feo would piss me off.
I can’t abide Dylan. It just screams chav to me.

Peachbubble · 08/04/2020 17:36

Theo

EmmaGrundyForPM · 08/04/2020 17:38

I really like Dylan. I wanted it it for DS1 but Dh vetoed it as it reminded him of The Magic Roundabout which shows our age!

Theo is ok.

Rio5555 · 08/04/2020 17:41

Theo for me. It is more popular but saying that I haven’t come across any at baby groups. Dylan is a bit of a naughty boy name for me and 10 years dated?

mangoandraspberries · 08/04/2020 18:14

Ooo mixed responses! Thanks!!

Interesting that a few people think Dylan could be considered a bit chavvy - I actually didn't realise this until I posted an earlier thread with lots of names including it and someone mentioned it's sometimes thought of that way!

I think I prefer Dylan. To me Theo is short for Theodore and I'm not keen on either version.

babynamelover · 08/04/2020 22:58

Prefer Dylan or Theodore then you can have Teddy which I love 😃. What is your older son's name?

Staffori · 08/04/2020 23:00

Dylan is one of my favourite names ever. Don't care for Theo much.

ScorpionQueen · 08/04/2020 23:05

Dylan is one of my favourite names and I don't see it as chavvy at all. I do also like Theo, though. They are both great names.

VisionQuest · 09/04/2020 00:35

Dylan is a great name, is it chavvy?Theo is nice too but doesn't have the same impact.

Astronica · 09/04/2020 01:15

I prefer Theo.

Orphlids · 09/04/2020 11:39

Don’t forget, really posh people don’t tend to care about if something is considered “chavvy” - they are far too busy being posh to care about what other people think. It’s only really the middle classes who are so preoccupied with this concept. Better to go for a name you love, as the judgemental people do tend to be rather tedious!

spiderlight · 09/04/2020 17:40

Dylan (based on the entirely subjective reasoning that my DS has two friends called Dylan and Theo, and Dylan is a lovely lovely boy while Theo is the naughtiest child I have ever met in my life!)

boredboredboredboredbored · 09/04/2020 18:13

I have a 15 yo Dylan. He's super cool, ignore the chav comments, it's a fab name. Don't know of any other Dylan's where we live.

boredboredboredboredbored · 09/04/2020 18:14

@Orphlids Well said 🙌🏻

MikeUniformMike · 09/04/2020 18:23

Really posh people don't use the word posh.
