DCs with same initials

I’m pregnant with DC2 and thinking of names. There are a few that I really like but they start with the same letter as my son’s name. Should I rule this out? It’s not something I would ever do deliberately - I’d rather my kids’ names felt individual than part of a set - but I love Irish names and lots of lovely ones begin with S!

Please do, my sister used it as an excuse to open all my letters!

It doesn’t matter. They’ll only be living with each other for a short period out of their entire lives so in terms of postage, having two Mr S Smiths in the house isn’t going to be that much of an inconvenience. Other than that, I can’t think why it would be an issue at all!

We have two who have the same first initial. It sounds different though (if that makes sense)

It definitely doesn’t matter
I don’t get any official post anymore. Phone bills, bank statements all online. HMRC is now online and my doctors have started putting blood test results online. I think “post” is no longer much of a consideration now, let alone in 15 years time!
I think same initial works well by the way

Ok that’s good! My sister and I actually have the same initials though she is known by a nickname with a different first letter so even the post thing wasn’t usually an issue. I think it’s more that I didn’t want it to feel like I’d deliberately matched them. I know a family with 5 children where all their names (and the parents’!) begin with R which I think is a bit cringe. Obviously far from that situation (neither I nor DH’s names start with S). And if we went on to have another child I would definitely avoid the same letter again I think.

I have same initials as one on my DC. DH has the same as 2 of them.

My daughter's have their own first initial different to my hubby and I. I guess it depends if you are going to have more than two will you feel compelled to keep the pattern going?

MrsJoshNavidi · 08/04/2020 11:30

I have the same 3 initials as my DM. It was annoying when I became old enough to start getting formal post like bank statements and the like and she would open them.

bridgetreilly · 08/04/2020 11:30

Two is fine, three is naff.

Ellmau · 08/04/2020 11:36

As long as the names themselves aren't too similar sounding, eg I wouldn't pick Sean and Siobhan together, you should be fine.

MrsJoshNavidi · 08/04/2020 12:45

To clarify, it was 2 for the (different) first names, then surname. Eg:

Mary Angela Smith
Margaret Alison Smith.

Apparently no-one noticed for years.
