Sacha

For a boy. We are both English and that’s our preferred spelling. It would just be Sacha, not Alexander. Thoughts?

I’m a bit confused. Is Sacha usually short for Alexander? I’m thinking this is pronounced ‘Sasha’ or are you saying it differently?

Throughabushbackwards · 07/04/2020 18:43

Great name. We know a Sacha who is called "Smasha" for a nn. Works very well for an active little lad!

Blursula · 07/04/2020 18:47

@Pinkblueberry yes pronounced the same as Sasha. It is quite often used as a nickname for Alexander which I’ve never really understood!

Well yes, it’s fine for a boys name because it is a boys name, but be prepared for a lifetime of “no, no, just Sacha. No, it’s not short for Alexander”.

Pinkblueberry · 07/04/2020 18:56

@Blursula well then I’ve learnt something new today Grin I think it’s a nice name.

Stressheadme123 · 07/04/2020 19:02

Short for Alexander? Never heard of that. Does sound v girly though

IVflytrap · 07/04/2020 19:20

I know one, not short for anything. I think it's fine.

Janek · 07/04/2020 19:27

My dd2 was going to be Sacha if she had been a boy. It's a great name. She now has a teddy called Sacha.

pinkpinecone · 07/04/2020 19:30

Really like it

LotusClover · 07/04/2020 19:31

I'd hear it and think of the girls name Sasha. It's bit like Kyler for a boy, it sounds the same as Kyla.

MikeUniformMike · 07/04/2020 19:32

I know a Sascha. I have no idea if it's short for anything. He's not originally from the UK if that makes a difference.

I know an Alex who is Alex on the bc, and a Xander.

Plenty of Sandras are just Sandra.

AuntieStella · 07/04/2020 19:35

Sasha is a lovely name for a boy.

It doesn't strike me as unusual, because it's in use as a boy's name across mainland Europe as well as here. It's like 'Charlie' - can sometimes be a girl, but when you hear it you expect a boy.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 07/04/2020 19:37

Sasha is a nn for Alexander in the Russian language because the latter is spelled as Aleksandr, with "sa" in the middle.

In English, I only ever came across it as a girl's name.

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 07/04/2020 19:45

I love Sacha and am familiar with it as a shortening of Alexander in Russian. Trouble is, in England Sasha for girls is much more common so will cause confusion especially if you are not using Alexander as the full name.

ofwarren · 07/04/2020 19:49

My first thought is Sacha Baron Cohen. I don't think of it as a girl's name even though it's unisex.
I like it.

Shmithecat2 · 07/04/2020 19:49

Love Sacha for a boy. Love Sachiel even more.

Blursula · 07/04/2020 19:59

@WhateverHappenedToBathPearls our first born has a unisex name so it doesn’t particularly bother me if people see it written down and aren’t sure. I have always associated Sasha with girls and Sacha with boys though.

Also, what DID happen to bath pearls?!

Like Sacha Distel. He might have been Sasha though...

MikeUniformMike · 08/04/2020 07:27

Alexandre 'Sacha' Distel is correct.

AuntyAnna · 08/04/2020 11:50

I like Sacha for a boy and love that he can be Alexander also 😃.
