I don't live in the UK, but I would like to know what you think of the following names. If you could rate them and maybe tell me, what you think of them class wise (not that it matters a lot, but I would be sad to call my child something that is very chavvy or just lower-class):

  • Indie
  • Minnie
  • Vida
  • Emmy
  • Billie

THANKS! Smile

Indie is cute and pretty.
Minnie sounds a bit silly and as others have mentioned it is seen as a stripper name.
Vida is alright.
Emmy is cute for a little girl but won't age well at all. I can't picture this name on anyone over the age of 5.
Billie sounds childish and will probably be associated with Billie Eilish.
Daisy is nice but a bit plain.

Ikeameatballs · 07/04/2020 17:09

I like Daisy and Vida.

I actually LOVE Emmie but would spell it like that and I would use Emmeline as a full name.

Nonnymum · 07/04/2020 17:10

Daisy is by far my favourite, with Vida second. Sorry the others sound like pet names to me that might not age well. But you say you are not in the UK it might be different in your country?

Jossina · 07/04/2020 17:30

You want to name her what you'll call her but what about what SHE will want?

Windyatthebeach · 07/04/2020 17:48

Vida looks like a nn for Vileda!!

sibbys · 07/04/2020 19:53

@Jossina She can change her name whenever she wants. In scandinavia we don't do nicknames. I would be happy with any of my suggested names to be my first name Smile

I promise I'm not calling her Minnie. When I lived in London as a child we called our private parts fanny! BlushConfusedShock

I think they're all lovely names; and none of them 'chavvy'. X

  1. Daisy
  2. Billie
  3. Indie
  4. Vida

Emmy short for Emmeline would be nice.

Billie makes me think of Billie Piper. Not a terrible association at all but I think the name is quite dated.

Minnie is either Minnie Mouse or a vagina.

Indie is a bit try hard.

Never head Vida, not keen.

AuntyAnna · 08/04/2020 11:48

I like Vida the best 😃. I prefer for children to have a longer form of a cutsie nickname as an adult otherwise it's quite limiting, just my opinion of course.

Daisy
Billie
Vida
Emmy
Indie
Minnie

I know a Billie and Minnie and Emmy, all school age, all love their names. Don't worry about them being nicknames to others, choose the name you love.

Emthebaker · 09/04/2020 19:52

They’re all nice names, I think. I don’t get MN obsession with forcing long names on everyone.

And what a silly thing to say - ‘you might like it, but your child might not’! That could also be said for any other name! Personally, I like Billie the most from your list and I’d much rather be named that than Josephine or Clementine or any of the other ‘proper’ MN favourite names!

Cosyblanky · 09/04/2020 20:04

I wouldn't use Indie as the whole name, it just seems so much a shortened version of a longer name. Yes Billie ( and Billie Jo etc) very chavy and dated round here.

MikeUniformMike · 09/04/2020 20:05

The same goes for boys' names Emthebaker.

If I think of adults I know, most have shortened names or their names were short already.
