@SE13Mummy

Where I grew up was very rural and about 10 years behind the rest of the UK, which may well explain it!

My all girls secondary school also had lots of Emma/Katie/Claire/Anna/Charlotte/Alice/Amy, Lindsay, Kirsty, Kimberley, Kayley, Hayley, Nicola, Amanda and Sophie.

DramaAlpaca
Thank you we were just saying the names out loud and thought Polly and Maria sounded really nice and quite pretty together

Wow Polly Maria is lovely.

As you can see, not old fashioned - classic, interesting, strong.

If it were me, I'd have Polydora as a full name, think it's lovely.

averythinline · 01/04/2020 18:08

I like all your names , knew a lovely Polly in her case full name was Penelope and her mum didn't like Penny , Maria probably least fave but it's a classic

userabcname · 01/04/2020 18:10

I don't think any of these are particularly "old fashioned". I knew girls with these names when I was at school (I'm 32) and have taught many more since as a secondary school teacher. Polly is perhaps the most unusual but I still have known a fair few.

VenusClapTrap · 01/04/2020 18:43

Good list. I like all of those. Dd was nearly a Helena but we went with Audrey in the end.

Whatsyourflava · 01/04/2020 18:48

Polls sounds amazing @Bluesponge

Name sorted ✅

  • Polly Maria ❤️
daisypond · 01/04/2020 19:01

I like Polly and Maria but I don’t think you can have them together. Polly is a standard classic nickname for Maria/Mary, so they are effectively the same name. It goes something like Mary Molly Polly.

Bluesponge · 01/04/2020 19:33

we also quite like Polly Audrey but personally think Polly Maria sounds nicer

villamariavintrapp · 01/04/2020 21:31

All nice names, not old fashioned, not overly common. Only slight thing with polly is that I think it can kind of run into the next name and sound like a word-like polymer, or polyamory, or polyester..? That's maybe just me though!

Whatsyourflava · 01/04/2020 22:17

I like both

Polly Audrey and polly maria

Seems like maria has more meaning to you though @Bluesponge ?

bridgetreilly · 01/04/2020 23:09

Old-fashioned names are likely to age much better than very new and trendy ones.

Pottytoes · 01/04/2020 23:56

I know a 9 year old Harriet and my 3 year old niece is Polly. All are lovely classic very usable names

ironicname · 02/04/2020 00:07

I like them all except Maria. I don't think that it works in the UK, it's a bit 70's.

Jossina · 02/04/2020 04:48

Polly rings as a nickname to me. And a parrot. Sorry.

MikeUniformMike · 02/04/2020 08:49

Polly was a nn for Mary originally, but it is a standalone name now, and a nice one.

Astronica · 02/04/2020 09:00

Polly Maria is really lovely and has that extra special element of family meaning for you. Harriet and Helena are both great names too. None of your names are old-fashioned in the sense you mean (out of date) - all are absolutely usable today.

MinorArcana · 02/04/2020 09:00

Polly isn’t really an obvious nickname for Maria / Mary.

It’s hardly like calling a child Lizzie Elizabeth Surname.

MikeUniformMike · 02/04/2020 09:18

Lily Elizabeth or Daisy Margaret are better examples, @MinorArcana.

ShieldPrintersNeeded · 02/04/2020 09:19

Polly our the kettle on....just no. Helena is beautiful.
