Is it naff to call a baby boy my surname

For example names like Christie, Nichol, Miller, Walker, Ellis are originally surnames and I know men with these names.

But would it be naff to call baby my maiden name? (Not one of the above).

Baby will take my DH’s surname.

I love the idea and know a few people who have done that (Hunter, Forbes, Hudson, Campbell, Innes). I’m in Scotland though and it’s fairly common here.

I have Mum's maiden name as a middle name - quite common in Scotland, I think.

As you still use that name in some circumstances, I think it's odd. EG if your work colleagues know you as Mary Edward, and you tell them that you have named your son Edward, they will think of him as Edward Edward.

If it's a nice name and the two names sound well together, go for it. If it comes out sounding like poor old Sir Cloudsely Shovell, don't! More names than we think were originally surnames, even Shirley. And he'll be the only one in the class, too, unless you name is Harrison or Jackson or Bailey or Harley!

I actually know quite a few people who have done this, none who have taken their husbands’ names though (ie they use their names as the baby’s name not their “maiden” name).
I quite like it, actually.
