Eddie and Ellie

My sons name is shortened to Ed or Eddie about 70% of the time, is it too samey to have a daughter with a name which would likely shorten to Ellie or Ella? The long versions don't sound similar at all (except the first sound).

When naming my first two children I was adamant I didn't want them to have the same initials but it doesn't bother me so much this time..

(my naming approach is fairly unusual but with a more common nickname)

I would say Ella’s fine but Ellie too similar to Eddie.

Thanks, the name does actually lend itself more to Ella than Ellie.

I agree
Ella sounds lovely too

VenusClapTrap · 30/03/2020 23:36

Too similar. I’d choose something else.

DramaAlpaca · 30/03/2020 23:39

Eddie and Ellie is too similar. Ella is better.

I love Eddie....so for a girl to match:
.
Elenanor shortened Ella
Elloise - Ella

I think it’s sweet. It sounds like 2 cute little teddy bears from a story book.

They, not it.

Whatsyourflava · 31/03/2020 15:54

I think it’s absolutely fine and they actually complement each other well

LotusClover · 31/03/2020 16:49

I agree that Ellie is too similar but Ella is okay. Some nice unusual names that could shorten to Ella:

Elena/Ellena
Elodie
Elora

Does no one spell the fully version of Ellie, ELEANOR anymore?!
