Is it possible to have this name without the standard ‘Evie’ which I dislike nickname?
The name would be pronounced Eve-Lyn it was my grandmothers name who I was incredibly close to and I would like to honour her but really not sure how to get around the Evie thing

My daughter is Evelyn on her BC but she’s only ever been called Effie, so yes it’s possible. Do you like Eve?

GaraMedouar · 27/03/2020 08:01

I know an Evelyn who goes by Eve. I love the name Evelyn.

Starlight1243 · 27/03/2020 08:02

My niece is Evelin she get Ev for short.

MikeUniformMike · 27/03/2020 08:14

Not keen, but not my baby.
I like Eve and Evie, but there are so many young children with similar names.

mollymoggs · 27/03/2020 08:16

My friend has an Evelyn. She goes by evvy or ev. Friend really dislikes Evie and it has been used a few times but df corrects straight away and problem solved. However child is only 5 so this strategy may not work once Evelyn is more independent!

Beautiful name. I've have found that some people always give nicknames but most of them can corrected.

My name can be shortened and I do use one of them for convenience. Any other shortening I just don't respond to. Not being snitty but I just don't realise it's me being spoken to.

Viletta · 29/03/2020 02:57

I wonder if you can shorted it to Lyn

A name I've always loved, and that does not have to be shortened. Have her go by Evelyn.

YourStarlessEyes · 29/03/2020 07:00

My Evelyn is called by her full name, although we don't pronounce it Eve-lyn.

SuperSange · 29/03/2020 07:33

My grandma Evelyn was only ever called by Evelyn.

ChateauMyself · 29/03/2020 07:37

My Nan - but was known as Eve

Prettylittlelady · 29/03/2020 07:50

Thank you for your responses, I’m more swayed towards using it now, I could always just call her by her full name...even though it
Not keen on Evie, I do like Eva so maybe that’s could work though might be a stretch?

If the short form and pronunciation matter to you, as they clearly do, I honestly wouldn’t chose a name which has two equally well-known pronunciations. If you want ‘EVE-lin’, won’t it annoy you every time someone opts for ‘Evvuh-lin’?

FlabberMcBlasted · 29/03/2020 08:04

I like the name. I think the natural shortening is Eve. However, it’s a name I pronounce EverLyn so I’d need correcting.

Prettylittlelady · 29/03/2020 08:21

@WalledGarden the name is important because it’s my grandmother’s name. Most people remember once they’ve been corrected once to be fair.

I love the name and think it doesn’t have to be shortened

Lovely name

Treaclespongeandcustard · 29/03/2020 22:49

I know an Evelyn. It’s a beautiful name and everyone calls her Evelyn. Flowers
