Jack short for Jackson?

I know its a stand alone name but I quite like both. I'd like him to be Jackson but the option to nn jack. But is this considered silly?

Jack is a diminutive of John which makes far less sense even if well established in historical record than being a nickname for Jackson.

Just be careful with your surname, if it's not convincingly "surname" then your child could have a life of confusion from people not knowing what their name/surname is, e.g. Jackson Thomas

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2020 15:20

Do it if you like it, it's not silly.

MikeUniformMike · 23/03/2020 15:22

Jack short for John, Jacob or James.
Call him Jack with Jackson as a possible nn.

Jackson seems downmarket. Jaxon is awful.

YgritteSnow · 23/03/2020 15:23

I know a Jackson and a Jaxon - Canadian. I like the name a lot and both spellings.

Userr19037 · 23/03/2020 15:51

It's so difficult. I like both. I originally loved Jack but felt it needed more and then started to really like Jackson. I can't settle on one or the other so hoped I could use Jackson with nn Jack but after announcing him as Jackson I started to wonder if it is silly using Jack as a nn as I know it is a stand alone name as is Jackson 🙈

Jaxon nn Jax.

Whatsyourflava · 23/03/2020 15:55

I LOVE Jackson nickname Jack !! Such a great choice 🥰

user1493494961 · 23/03/2020 17:08

Jackson has a certain vibe and not a good one. Just go with Jack.

Mrstwiddle · 23/03/2020 17:10

Agree with previous post, stick to Jack.

daisypond · 23/03/2020 17:31

Jack.

Bluejuicyapple · 23/03/2020 17:39

Jack is good, Jackson is not great, Jaxon is beyond hideous

Astronica · 24/03/2020 08:18

There's no reason why you can't have Jackson called Jack for short if you want - I wouldn't call it silly. I just much prefer Jack as the full name so it feels a bit unnecessary to me to have what seems to me to be the lesser name as the full name.

daisypond · 24/03/2020 08:20

Jackson only works if the dad is called Jack.

Flymetothestars · 24/03/2020 10:10

I don’t think it’s at all silly @Userr19037

Jack and Jackson are such nice names and you’d be giving your son two options too so I think it’s a great idea. The Jackson I know gets called Jax but I wouldn’t bat at eyelid if he was called Jack, it’s actually the more naturally shortening if you look at the name itself

DartmoorChef · 24/03/2020 10:24

What about mason, Harrison, jason,??

I like the name Jackson.

MikeUniformMike · 24/03/2020 10:34

Jason and Samson are old names.
Alison is from french, but is dated.

ArriettyJones · 24/03/2020 10:36

How about Jack short for Jacobi?

daisypond · 24/03/2020 10:39

What about mason, Harrison, jason,??
Harrison is the same - son of Harry.
Jason and Mason aren’t “son of “ names, they just happen to end in o-n.

HappyDinosaur · 24/03/2020 10:41

I prefer Jack as a stand alone name.

Whydoesit · 24/03/2020 10:51

Prefer Jack as a stand-alone name. Jack as short for Jackson I guess. Jax / Jaxon is awful.

SallyWD · 24/03/2020 11:03

Jack is much nicer than Jackson. I can only think of Jaxon when I hear Jackson.

pilates · 25/03/2020 22:31

Jack is so much better than Jackson

AlliKaneSon · 25/03/2020 23:34

I have a Harrison known as Harri, which is kind of the same thing.

SpaceSharkTea · 26/03/2020 20:59

I know of three Jackson/Jaxon's who all go by Jacks/Jax

Jack is so boring imo but Jackson is modern

VenusClapTrap · 26/03/2020 23:03

Jackson just makes me think of Michael Jackson. Are you a fan?
Jack is nicer.
