For both girls and boys.

Something that is easy to spell and pronounce and doesn't have a different meaning in some countries.
Leo is one but Theo less so because it would be Tay-o in some countries.
Adam is because it is a given name in Muslim, Christian and Jewish countries.
Anna and Emma will work.

Some names are rude or slang in some countries - Fanny, Peter, Dick etc

Sofia, Maia, Anna, Catherine, Helen, Natalia,

Leo, Tomas, Nicolas, Joseph, Adam, Kasper, Peter

Royal names and biblical names which are used across the Abrahamic religions. There tends to be spelling variations and some differences in pronunciation but the names are familiar to
many globally even if little used locally.

Aren’t all names international these days?

DramaAlpaca · 19/03/2020 15:30

Anna, Nina, Emma.

Max, Alex, Adam.

For boys names like Thomas/Tomos/Tomas, Adam, David, Joseph, Matthew, John and James and all their equivalents.

For girls names like Sophia/Sofia/Sophie, Elisabeth/Isabel/Isabella, Laura, Mary and Anna.

European royal names and biblical classics, especially ones which also feature in Islam and Judaism.

If you look at some of these names there is also a lot of variation in the UK.

So James is Iago in Welsh, Jago in Cornish and Seumas/Hamish in Scottish gaelic for example.

Nico

Works for both for me

Not really Cherry. People tend to only cope with what they are familiar with.

I can remember someone insisting that Sean was saying his name wrongly and that it was pronounced Seen, someone else insisting that Anthony always had a th sound in it, someone else insisting that Bjarne was pronounced Bee-urn, ...

Some can't say certain letters - their native language doesn't have that sound. Even names that theoretically can be used in different continents may sound different. There are lots of names that I wouldn't know how to say.

Look at the welsh names and irish name threads. Some names are pronounced differently by region. Caoimhe, Tadhg and Siwan are examples.

Muhammad

Caffi, the variations are names from different languages not just regional. James can be Siams in welsh.
Cornish and Welsh are quite similar, as is Breton. Iago and Jago are from Jacobus.

Enko · 19/03/2020 18:39

Names that are commonly known in most countries so I think names like.

Laura
David
Christian/Christine

bridgetreilly · 19/03/2020 18:44

I think most names are very culturally specific, not international.

MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2020 19:22

Names that don't vary much in different languages.
Robert and Christina would probably work.

userabcname · 19/03/2020 19:51

On my year abroad there were a mix of French, English, American, Spanish and German students that I lived/socialised with. I remember one of the Spanish students commenting to one of the British students that her name, Natasha, was a good one in such a situation as it was known and pronounced the same by everyone in the group. So I'd say Natasha is a good international name.
