Baby name to suit big brother Finlay

Hi I am currently pregnant with DC2, I have one DS called Finlay and I am really struggling to think of baby names this time around. We don’t know if baby is a boy or a girl so looking for girls and boys names.

I love Leo for a boy but my husband thinks it’s too popular at the moment (?) I love Penelope for a girl but I am worried it doesn’t suit Finn (?) we also quite like the name summer.

This baby will be our rainbow after two miscarriages so we were also thinking about possible rainbow baby names but I can’t think of any.

Any suggestions welcome x

Penelope and Leo are both really beautiful names that would work really well with Finn

Someone suggested a beautiful rainbow baby name on here recently but I’ve forgotten what it was

Abigail. Her father’s joy.
Iris. Rainbow in Greek.
Mia .wished for child.
Violet Rainbow colour.

Aaron. Miracle
Anthony Priceless
Gabriel. Hero of God
Benedict. Blessing.

Finlay is quite a scottish to name to me so I'd probably go down that line (although if you don't have Scottish connections may be not?)
Fergus
Struan
Douglas (Dougie)
Harris
Lewis
Alistair (Ali)
Iona
Isla
Alisa - apparently means supernatural victory, would that work as a rainbow name??
Freya - goddess of love

Sibling names don't need to go with each other - treat them as two individuals and just pick names you like, both Penelope and Leo are lovely.

I'm a bit wary of the 'rainbow name' thing - again, this child is their own person, not connected to their lost siblings. I'm sorry for your losses, but don't burden your child with that loss in their name. Think about their future, not your present.

Thanks everyone, and yes @emmathedilemma we do have Scottish connections and so have Harris on the list already 😊 and like the suggestion of Alisa. @4amWitchingHour I understand what you are saying about the rainbow name link but I also thought it was a lovely way to honour our little angel babies that I feel have looked over this pregnancy.

What are people’s thoughts on Leonie for a girl so we could abbreviate to Leo

How about Cleo @Sparkle880
I love it and can be shortened to Leo

What about Otto or Otis? Kit? Barnaby? Sidney? Chester?

emmathedilemma · 10/03/2020 16:39

Sorry, Ailsa not Alisa damn autocorrect!!
Not a great fan of Leonie, probably because I went to school with one and she was a mega b!tch. Also often confused pronunciation between Lee-onie and lay-onie. I prefer Penelope.

Ellmau · 10/03/2020 19:49

Leo sounds a bit to like Finlay to me.

Lewis?
Iona for a girl.

Lllot5 · 10/03/2020 19:53

If I was having a baby now (apart from calling the press cos it’d be a miracle) I would have Freddie or Matilda.

Astridd · 10/03/2020 19:53

Leo is cool and I like Leonie. Leona?

Ethan
Lucas

Sadie
Georgina

Sparkle880 · 10/03/2020 21:52

Ahhhh @Whatsyourflava I hadn’t thought of Cleo thank you, @Ellmau and @Lllot5 we both like Lewis and Freddie but we have those names in our family already so unfortunately couldn’t use them 😔 @Astridd I like Ethan and Lucas thank you
