Love the name Beatrix but struggling for shortened versions. I would love Betsy but what do people think. Can we get away with it??

Bee
Trixie

Bea is a well known NN for Beatrix.

You could try for Betsy but she'l probably become Beatrix or Bea as she gets older.

Poppyfields21 · 07/03/2020 17:39

Betsy to me is Elizabeth

Sgtmajormummy · 07/03/2020 17:42

Ours had the nIckname Beezer. Grin
But that was in the 60s when the kids’ comic was going strong.
I like Bee.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 07/03/2020 17:43

Trixie, Beattie, Bea

DoctorBambino · 07/03/2020 18:59

I think you can get away with whatever you want!

ZebraKid71 · 07/03/2020 19:23

There are two at dds nursery and both go by trixie. I know an adult (40ish) Beatrix who goes by Bea.

MissBPotter · 07/03/2020 19:25

We have Bea but usually pronounce it beee-a If that makes sense.

Neighneigh · 07/03/2020 19:28

I know a Bix, she's fab.

NannyR · 07/03/2020 19:28

Bea or Trixie. Betsy is traditionally short for Elizabeth.
Having said that, many nicknames that evolve as the child grows have no relation to the actual name they were given.

FenellaMaxwell · 07/03/2020 19:32

I know one who uses Beatie? Betsy is definitely Elizabeth.

Dyra · 07/03/2020 21:44

I know a Beattie Beatrix as well.

Not much of a shortened name, but she likes it.

Grufallosfriends · 07/03/2020 21:59

Beatrix is easy to say, only 2 syllables.

Betsy isn't any shorter. I'd assume this was short for Elisabeth

Our Beatrix is always Bea, rarely called Beatrix.

Jossina · 07/03/2020 22:15

Betsey was always my least favourite nickname for Elizabeth. It just conjures up such a.... ugh picture. But it is definitely a nickname for Elizabeth, not Beatrix.

Astronica · 08/03/2020 02:09

Betsy works well for a nickname for Beatrix. Of course traditionally it has been used for Elizabeth, but you know there are no rules for this and you can use whatever you want for your daughter's nickname. I enjoy the freshness of unexpected nicknames!

Changedname81 · 08/03/2020 07:16

Isn’t Beatrix 3 syllables with the middle syllable being ever so slight?

CoalCraft · 08/03/2020 07:32

I knew a Beatrice who was usually called Bee, I think it's lovely. Betsy is sweet too

Singingatmidnight · 08/03/2020 12:09

I had an Aunty Beat.

Trixie

Betsy is a diminutive of Elizabeth.

SquigglePigs · 08/03/2020 18:17

Bea (Bee) or Trixie are the obvious choices. You could try to push Betsy but think you might get stuck when she goes to school.

HariboBrenshnio · 08/03/2020 18:26

I have a Betsy - her full name isn't Elizabeth but people assume it is.
I think because it's a nick name so not how she'll introduce herself, most people will call her Bea or Trixie once she's at school.

MikeUniformMike · 08/03/2020 18:41

Beattie. It's cute.

Sharkyfan · 08/03/2020 18:43

If you like Betsy probably best to just go for that as a whole name

Bea or trixie is standard for Beatrix
