Rocco sounds a bit celeb wannabe.
Rex is ok and more popular now.
Sawyer- ok, reminds me of Lost
Huck- just no, he'd be in for a life of nicknames.

Bindi bit babyish and too much like 'bin'.
Buffy... I have no opinion other than the obvious reminder!
Andie/Alexandria by far my favourite.

userabcname · 07/03/2020 16:29

Love Rex and Alexandria

florascotia2 · 07/03/2020 17:01

Rocco What Manly said, Fine if you're Italian, though.
Rex to me = Rex (Reginald) Harrison - late-middle aged authority figure in films such as Dr Doolittle, My Fair Lady etc. But it is a recognised name and some people like it.
Sawyer This may be just me, but I don't understand the popularity of old--style manual workers' names as first names
Huck Huckleberrry is rather twee, to my taste. A child is not a fruit. Huck is worse. If it's not an abbreviation for the berry, then as a verb it means to throw or to chuck. And just think (as PP said) of nickname teasing.

Bindi The name of the red dot traditionally worn by some Hindu and Jain women. Has religious and mystical significance. I don't know enough about those traditions to know whether it's respectful or otherwise to use the word as a name. Perhaps you should enquire?
Belinda is fine.

Buffy A unisex nickname. A jolly sound rather than a meaning.

Alexandria OK, but again to my taste the simpler Alexandra is nicer.

DoctorBambino · 07/03/2020 17:11

I LOVE Bindi but would never be brave enough to use it myself

DramaAlpaca · 07/03/2020 17:12

Rocco - OK if you're Italian
Rex - only if you're naming a dog
Sawyer - best of the bunch
Huck - just no, awful

Bindi - as a pp said, might be religiously disrespectful & as a name it's twee
Buffy - dear God, no. But traditionally it's a diminutive of Elizabeth
Andie - OK, but Alexandria is fussy. Alexandra is nicer

nosleepp · 07/03/2020 17:15

I love Sawyer (massive lost fans) and I like Andie too

Carouselfish · 07/03/2020 19:02

Bindi thinking of the Australian name, Indian connotations fine. Huck, I like the simple, woodsmany feel, plus literary of course. Any other similar one syllable?

Your boys' names Saywer and Huck have an earthy retro American feel. (I'm not sure I'm describing that right?!). They're not names I'd choose myself but I quite like Huck. It's strong and a bit different. No to Sawyer as I don't like surname names and I think the American pronunciation is different to the British one, which would bother me with such an American sounding name. Rex and Rocco sound a bit East End laddish/gangster. Not sure if that's what you're going for?

Belinda is brilliantly retro and unusual these days and I love the Bindi shortening. I'd go with that.

Not Buffy! Not a nice sound.

Andie I really like. Especially as a shortening of Alexandria.

Jossina · 08/03/2020 01:21

Buffy as a nickname sure; and this is coming from a HUGE Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. Bindi makes me think of that poor child laborer in Oz. Andie from Alexandria (I like Alexandra or Alexandrina better) makes little to no sense.

Sawyer is okay. I'd prefer Huckleberry full out. Or maybe Clemens, Orion, Silas, Fetlock, Tom or Oscar if you're a Twain fan.

Astronica · 08/03/2020 01:55

I like Rex and Huck. I also like the idea of Huck as a nn of Henry. Other boy options: Lex, Wilf, Kip.

I love Andie/Alexandria from the girl's list.

stuntbanana · 08/03/2020 02:44

Rocco- medallion man aka 1970's image sprung to mind
Rex - fine if a noble Alsatian , not a child , also as above
Sawyer- ok but not great
Huck - full name - written looks like Hulk at a glance

Bindi - poss as nn for Belinda or standalone- not stand alone , maybe ok as nn
Buffy - full name - as in the buff , no
Andie - nn for Alexandria - nice , pretty

How about Hudson?

CoalCraft · 08/03/2020 07:35

I like Rex and Alexandra / Andie (though you may find it gets spelt "Andy", or that she's just called Alex or Ally)

Carouselfish · 08/03/2020 07:41

I'd thought Lex, our surname is two syllables ending in an er sound so it is very Lex Luthor like. But our other DC has a Latin name so Rex and Lex work well with it.
Yes, earthy Americana is what I like for boys. Half my family are from US. But, despite Sawyer I don't like surname sounding names, so that spoilt Hudson for me.

Seems Andie is most liked. I'm a child of the 80s and so many of my favourite films had a heroine called that. But I've felt most defensive over Bindi, so that's where my heart lies.
Thank you all!
