Does Annie sound "chavvy" to you?

Due DC2 soon, like Annie for a girl but someone recently described it as a bit chavvy. Opinions?

No. It's not my cup of tea but definitely not chavvy. I only know one little Annie and she is adorable (and not a chav).

Neolara · 06/03/2020 14:04

Not remotely.

My Victorian born granny was called Ann. Rarely heard nowadays. She got Annie. DH's even earlier born GGM was Annie. Personally I'd use the name Ann or Anne, but call her Annie. She's got the choice of either as she grows up.

The strongest and kindest woman I know is called Annie. I love it.

DoctorBambino · 06/03/2020 14:21

Annie is absolutely not chavvy in my opinion. Lovely name!

I’m not even sure if I’ll have another DC but I spend a long time contemplating the names I might use and I go back and forth on Annie!- I love Annie but I’m not sure if I could use it as it seems like it should be a nickname for something.

susandelgado · 06/03/2020 14:30

Love it! ( for a very good reason)!

LeviJeans11 · 06/03/2020 15:45

What do you mean by 'chavvy'?
It's such a horrible term to use Hmm

PetraRabbit · 06/03/2020 16:07

Nothing wrong with Annie. I prefer Anne or Anna as a full name but Annie is nice.

HelloDulling · 06/03/2020 16:08

Love it. Love Anna too.

Bloomburger · 06/03/2020 16:09

Prefer Anna.

HappyDinosaur · 06/03/2020 16:10

Definitely not chavvy, I think it's a beautiful name.

theconstantinoplegardener · 06/03/2020 17:02

Not chavvy at all! It's a lovely name. However I do agree with PP who suggested giving a more grown-up name and having Annie as a nickname but Anna etc to use for professional purposes as an adult.

user1493494961 · 06/03/2020 18:52

No, not at all.

Jossina · 06/03/2020 20:21

Not chavvy but I much prefer it as a nickname as previous posters have said.

DramaAlpaca · 07/03/2020 00:18

I don't think the diminutive of a classic name such as Anne/Ann could ever be described as that disgusting term 'chavvy'.

emmathedilemma · 07/03/2020 10:37

It's very classic and a lot less chavy than some of the alternatives that have been suggested!

WitsEnding · 07/03/2020 10:47

Like it but would name Anne and use Annie as a nickname - it's a diminutive. Having a diminutive as a formal name could seem a bit common (not prepared to call anybody chavvy!)
