Identical Twin Names

Hi everyone,

(NC as very outing)
We're expecting identical twins this July and whilst we've got girls names nailed, we're really struggling for boys.

They'll be siblings to Tristan Jack.
Our surname is long and ends in y, so would like to avoid ie and y names (Alfie, Gary etc)
I'd personally like to avoid popular names of the 80's meaning I was at school with them throughout the 90's (Lee, Mark, Matthew, Thomas, Craig, Scott etc).

I love Jasper, DH thinks it's a dogs name so need to avoid them too.

James & Seigfreid, Arthur & Lancelot already considered and rejected Wink.

Please help!x

Makes - names ! Auto correct fail !

3under2whatcangowrong · 06/03/2020 07:29

@Whatsyourflava I think we're as bad as each other Grin
He likes the simpler names of his school times and I like everything else but them x

We both like Kit but I can't help associate it with PE kit etc.
DH does like Jake but I'm not totally sold and not a fan of Jacob.

Argh! It's so hard. Good job we've got a few months to argue it out 😂 x

It sounds like you both like short names so what about Eli, Seth, Jude etc

I love Kit and never really think of PE kit. If anything I think of Drum Kit which is a cool association I think

Satsuma2 · 06/03/2020 08:42

Jago and Theo

Todayissunny · 06/03/2020 08:44

Congratulations. I had 3 under 2 too.
Short names (or easily shortened). we often refer to ours as X and Y (avoiding calling them the twins). Also names easy to say when saying X and Y.
We found it much easier to name our kids after they were born. Nothing on our short list suited them.

3under2whatcangowrong · 06/03/2020 09:13

@Todayissunny how did you manage with them? I'm slightly terrified x

What are your chosen girl names?

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 06/03/2020 09:29

Benton
Bartholomew
Charles
Montgomery
Digby
Sidney
Edwin

3under2whatcangowrong · 06/03/2020 09:30

@LittleRa sounds silly but I don't want to say. We didn't announce any thoughts of names with DS and told everyone when he was born. If they're girls we hope for the same but we're just so stumped with boys.x

Call one after one grandfather and the other after the other.

Or give them individual names, not matching ones.
Different initials.
Give the younger the name that comes first in the alphabet - Zebedee and Aaron, not the other way round, so that he doesn't always come last.

James and Arthur are an option. Siegfried and Lancelot are a bit too try-hard.

Consider how each name sounds with the surname. When they are adults, they won't be Twin1 and Twin2, but Firstname Surname.

I really like Alexander and Oscar. Raphael and Sebastian go together well too imo. Also like: George, William, Felix (might be too much of a cat name for your DH though), Benjamin, Gabriel. Wildcard names I like: Xavier, Ernest, Winston, Malachi.

Todayissunny · 06/03/2020 10:57

@3under2whatcangowrong - i remember feeling on a complete high to start with and immensely proud and in awe of myself and my 3 dcs. That was a great feeling.
But.... i can really recommend having someone lined up to help especially with dc1.
I have no idea looking back how we got though. We had no help (except that ds1 went to daycare 2 days a week to start with). I often dreaded the days on my own with the 3 of them. DH was a proper parent though and did his share.
EBF if possible. So much easier than bottles. DH used to get up in the night to bring babies to me to feed and put them back into bed after.
Train them into a routine asap. The Ts ate, slept and pooed at the same time.
Put them to bed early - asleep at 7pm.
I made myself get out and do things with them. I met up with a friend once a week and we would take all 5 out together. Almost kept me sane.
I did go back to work 60% (dh 80) but ended up as sahm.
It was an intense and exhausting but wonderful time.
There was a really supportive group of multiples parents on here. Not sure if there is now.

Do what you think is right. Don't listen to criticism and shit advice from people who know nothing about Ts and having 3 babies.
Ts are 13 now. They still come with their very unique twin challenges.

Todayissunny · 06/03/2020 10:59

@3under2whatcangowrong best of luck op. Look after yourself very well during pregnancy.

3under2whatcangowrong · 06/03/2020 11:10

@Todayissunny thank you 😊. DH will step up and already has but we live on and he works the family dairy farm, so it's 7 days a week, 365 days a year. My MIL is fab and will help wherever with all 3. I did EBF DS but plan on combi feeding these and hope they'll slot in to Tristan's bedtime routine, asleep by 7 x

@MikeUniformMike never considered the alphabetical order of age, that's a good point.

Lancelot & Seigfreid were never seriously considered. We often get references to the Heriot brothers as we're a farming family with a Tristan. The Knights of the Round Table were another joke Tristan reference x

I've got Id twins.

Differ t initials. Give the first born the second alphabet letter name. That way the first born will always be older but the demons will be fort in the register!

CaffiSaliMali · 06/03/2020 11:40

Tristan is a lovely name OP.

How about Edmund nn Ed, Ned or Ted
Peter
Christopher
Alexander
Asa
Patrick
Alistair
Gabriel
William

MikeUniformMike · 06/03/2020 11:42

D'oh! Of course!

I would avoid long names too. It will be far easier to say "The Twins" than "Nathaniel and Sebastian" or whatever it was posted upthread.

The identical twins I know (strangely all very good-looking and nice, like they were so special that they made two the same) tend to have names that are either different or of the same vibe but not the same number of syllables.

Think Emma and Sarah, Melanie and Yvonne, James and Andrew, Ross and Alan, etc. ( I may have substituted similar names to protect the twins)

MikeUniformMike · 06/03/2020 11:47

Forgot to add, they will get called "The Twins" a lot, but Tristan will get called "The Twins' brother" a lot too.

Try to keep them as two persons not a set of two.

How marvellous - three little boys.

3under2whatcangowrong · 06/03/2020 12:12

I'm very keen to keep them as separate individuals. I definitely won't be an every outfit matches kind of girl. More so as I don't want Tristan to feel like an outsider, there'll understandably be a big shift in attention away from him as it is x

Chocolatecake12 · 06/03/2020 12:23

Oscar and Jacob
Ben and max
Isaac and Joseph

Or other combinations of the above.

MikeUniformMike · 06/03/2020 12:33

There is a good reason for dressing your kids in similar clothes. If one of them wanders off, you'll know what he (or she) is wearing.

You think your kid won't wander off? Maybe they won't, but I had a major scare when buying shoes for DC1.DC2 had form for running off and whilst I was momentarily distracted, DC2 had legged it.
What you can do is buy two very similar items - say similar blue t-shirt but one dark blue and the other mid-blue etc.

When in panic mode, you'll probably barely remember your own name never mind where your DC was wearing when you last saw him.

Fortunately, DC2 is otherwise angelic. Smile

Anappleaday1 · 07/03/2020 21:24

Alexander and Benjamin
Leo and Jacob/Jake
Oscar and Max
Sebastian and Toby
Joshua and Dylan
