Do you think these names go well together for two sisters?

DramaAlpaca · 04/03/2020 00:27

No. Two totally different styles and the sounds are too similar.

1066vegan · 04/03/2020 00:44

I agree. Both nice names in their own right but they have a very different feel to them .

ArriettyJones · 04/03/2020 00:46

Lovely names. Very different styles. Do you mind if they “match”?

KLS02 · 04/03/2020 00:47

i think they sounds nice together

ChocolateEmergency · 04/03/2020 00:52

Yeah I guess I do want them to go nicely together.

I’m struggling so much to think of a name for DD2, I’m even tempted to used DD1’s middle name!

ArriettyJones · 04/03/2020 01:27

What’s her middle name?

Or how about Tilly, Lottie, Poppy type names?

ChocolateEmergency · 04/03/2020 02:04

It’s quite outing but it’s Eliza

I think you could use Sybilla or Willa with Billie as a nickname. Emily and Sybilla works for me in a way that Emily and Billie doesn't. Could Billie also work for Annabel or Mabel?

Jossina · 04/03/2020 04:28

I agree with Astronica. Billie as a proper name doesn't work with Emily, but using it as a sometimes nickname could.

What do you like most about Billie?

Poorolddaddypig · 04/03/2020 07:51

I LOVE Billie and think Emily is rather dull in comparison, but other than that fact I think they go together just fine. I think they're both sweet

Poorolddaddypig · 04/03/2020 07:52

I also strongly disagree that either Sybilla or Willa go well with Emily. The sort of name that I'd pair with Emily would be something like Jessica, Kate or Sophie. Willa has a trendy vibe but is unusual and Sybilla a bit dated and even more unusual! Neither of which would work with the popular and very well known Emily.

Poorolddaddypig · 04/03/2020 07:57

Oh God - sorry - is Emily your daughter's name? Sorry!! Genuinely wasn't trying to be snide, I thought you were considering the two of them! I should have read the thread more carefully. cringes

NoSauce · 04/03/2020 09:14

Emily would go well with Charlotte, Alice, Kate, Elizabeth, Lucy. Billie is lovely though.

CaffiSaliMali · 04/03/2020 09:40

I think Emily goes well with most names that are currently popular - Sophia, Grace, Ava, Isabel, Florence etc. It also goes well with currently underused classics - Laura, Sarah, Rebecca, etc. Some more trendy names would work with it too - Lyra, Freya and Phoebe for example.

Billie feels very different to Emily and sounds a bit matchy. They're both lovely though.

Cookit · 04/03/2020 10:54

I don’t think they’re the same style at all.

Would Billie be short for anything?

glitterbiscuits · 04/03/2020 11:02

Im not keen on Billie. It's very nickname ish and i don't brink it's a good 'professional ' name if she becomes a High Court Judge!

Billyandemily · 04/03/2020 11:09

I think they sound nice together i have an emily and a boy billy. There sister is isabelle.

Whatsyourflava · 04/03/2020 11:54

Is your current child called Emily of Billie

I like both and think they sound great together. They don’t “match” but who cares? I don’t really understand why that is even a factor - do they need to? Should siblings hair colour always be the same for example so that siblings “match”. No. Every person is an individual

JudgeMeNot · 04/03/2020 12:33

I know siblings called Hilary & Billy

user1493494961 · 04/03/2020 12:42

I think Billie would feel short-changed.

Thisismytimetoshine · 04/03/2020 12:46

They’re completely different styles. I don’t actually like Billie, tbh.

Cookit · 04/03/2020 21:02

They don’t “match” but who cares? I don’t really understand why that is even a factor - do they need to?
I don’t think it’s about them matching in a “Bill and Ben” type way but more that I would be really surprised that the same person would like both names as they aren’t the same style at all.

Emily is classic, solid and definitely feminine. The worst you could say is that it’s a bit boring. I’d imagine someone who likes Emily to like other traditional girls names and not to be overly bothered about popularity. They probably like Olivia, Sophie, Charlotte etc.

Billie is a completely different type of name - unisex, a nickname name, not traditional.

OP have you got any other names that you like but can’t use and people can make some suggestions maybe?

mamablondie · 05/03/2020 08:56

For what it’s worth I think Emily is lovely. Billie doesn’t have the same feel at all - I would probably be thinking along the Alice/Charlotte lines?

Emily and Billie don’t go at all though to answer your original question x

Whatsyourflava · 05/03/2020 10:38

@Cookit yeh I do agree I probably would be surprised that the same set of parents had chosen those two names but I’d only think that very monetarily and it’s not like it’s really all that bizarre or anything. I like both names Emily and Billie and would consider using either of them.

I’m one of 5 siblings and we all have very different names in terms of popularity and ‘feel’. No ones ever said anything and we’re all adults now with our own lives so the names are very rarely used all together anyway. I’d actually have found it strange if my mum and dad had been thinking about 5 names that all “work or match or fit” together. They just picked 5 names they liked

Ironman140 · 30/03/2020 20:32

I have an Emily and if I were to have another girl I would most likely call her Lucy or Alice, I personally like names that sound good together, I obviously don't mind names that are popular/dated or boring as some people might say.
