I know so many Lily-Mae variations it's getting complicated. I don't know why but there seems to have been an explosion and so many different spellings.

Lily
Lilly
Lilli
Lillie

Then is there a hyphen or are they separate names?

May
Mae
Mai

I know several between the ages of 7 and newborn. What is this recent craze.

Maybe it's time for Edna, Gladys and Sybil to become popular again.

Lily-May

Yellowcakestand · 25/02/2020 22:28

Within my friend group there is a Mabel, Percy and an Ida x

Yellowcakestand · 25/02/2020 22:28

And a Stan and an Albert. Love the old names coming back. Funnily enough, no Lillys in my sons class

Fairenuff · 25/02/2020 22:30

I know two Stanleys and one Albert.

I know a Stanley. An Elsie, Ada, Mabel and Pearl.

I only know one Lily.

Willing for any name to knock Oliver off the top spot. It is a nice name but my god there are a lot of them. It’s just boring now.

Omashu · 26/02/2020 08:14

Never mind Lily-May... If I see another child with the middle name Rose I’m going to scream! 😂😂😂

It’s none of my business of course, but it’s driving me absolutely bonkers. I won’t be surprised if my daughter is the only girl in her class without Rose as her middle name!

MikeUniformMike · 26/02/2020 09:37

It's a trend.
It's not just Lily, there's Lilia, Lila, Isla, Lola, Lyra, Layla, ... Liliana.
Other trends are the Eva names - Eve, Evie, Ava, Adea, Ida,Evelyn, Edie...Olivia.
The Ellie names, Elle, Ella, Bella, ...-elle, -ella.
The A names - Aurelia, Aurora, Arabella, ...

Lots of Ls, Vs and vowels.

Boy's names popular seem to be surnames, biblical names or anything ending in o. Again, lots of vowels.

When I was at school, Ann(e) or Jane were the popular middle names, and lots of names ended in -anne (Joanne, Suzanne, Leanne..).

MikeUniformMike · 26/02/2020 09:38

Ada, not Adea.

purpleme12 · 26/02/2020 09:43

It's funny cos when I was growing up I liked all the names that are popular now and they were very unusual then, no one had them but that was also part of the appeal for me I liked unusual names.
And now all the names I liked are really popular!

MikeUniformMike · 26/02/2020 10:03

Another trend is the long names for boys, with or without a 'nn'.
Long names for girls but known as a nn.

Lengthening names just to go on a bc like Annie but Annabelle on bc.

Does anyone remember the 'What can Hugo be nn for thread?'

Bezalelle · 26/02/2020 10:07

"Filler" middle names like Rose, Grace, and May are the Louise/Anne/Jane of the past generation. Of course, everyone says "Oh, it's after my great-great-grandmother" but... still boring.

Nowayorhighway · 26/02/2020 11:19

I think this is dying out but it was very popular when my older DC were born in 2011 and 2012, they have a couple of Lily-Mae’s in their classes. Also Ellie-Mae. Mae/May and Grace are super common middle names for some reason.

HedgeHogFoxBadger · 26/02/2020 22:30

Love Edna may, Sybil May and Gladyis May!

Whatsyourflava · 26/02/2020 22:34

There was half the number of Lily’s born in 2018 than were born in 2011. Numbers have dramatically reduced year-on-year for past 9 years. I don’t know any baby Lily’s round here.

Bol87 · 27/02/2020 21:25

I don’t know a Lily (or any other spelling of it) at any toddler groups we go too or among friends.. Ava & Isla are really popular in my neck of the woods!

My little girl has Mae as a middle name..it’s pretty & she was born in May. We couldn’t think of anything else 🙈 it’s not hyphenated, it’s just a middle, no-one ever uses it!

People get in such a huff about middle names, who cares?! I can’t remember the last time anyone ever used mine!

ShriekingBansheela · 27/02/2020 21:29

Lillee Mey, surely?

Will Clyde ever reappear?
Or Kenneth?

Popl · 27/02/2020 21:30

My little girl's middle name is Mai. I'm welsh and we picked an English first name and a middle name to reflect the welsh heritage. It fits well with her first name.
I'm not sure why you're bothered, just don't call your own kids that name! Hmm

Poetryinaction · 28/02/2020 17:43

I thought Lily-Mae was popular anout 10 years ago, and now there are more old lady names. My dd has the middle name Rose. It is very popular because it is beautiful.
