or

Wayne and Sharon

You need to give us more to go on. dated
What is your naming style. Modern traditional. Sweet.
Granny or grandpa chic, Nature, out there, Popular, dated
I'll take you don't want religions names, though.

groovergirl · 24/02/2020 07:58

@BackforGood Grin you are so spot on!

OP, if you do like religious names, I reckon Mary is drastically under-used these days and deserves some love.

Mary Margaret (nn Mary-Meg)
Mary Katherine
Mary Christina
Mary Clare
Mary Anne

Or pick any pretty, little-used-these-days name and add it to Mary:

Mary Melissa
Mary Jocasta
Mary Jessamine
Mary Cynthia

www.britishbabynames.com/blog/top-1000-names-in-england-and-wales-2018.html

Top 1000 baby names in England and Wales, for both sexes. Good place to get some inspiration, and you can see how popular or not a name is, if that's something you care about. That website also has the top 1000 names in Scotland, and I think the top 500 for Northern Ireland.

What kind of names do you like? Do you have any ancestry you'd like to reflect?

MikeUniformMike · 24/02/2020 09:07

Christian, Joshua, Mary, Joseph...

Meredithpuckett · 24/02/2020 11:43

Haha sorry I should have narrowed it down LOL I am very new to this sort of thing Grin. My husband Owen likes tree names, one we both like is Cypress, I quite like Juniper. We dont realy want to have any biblical or religious names because our family is not religious

Meredithpuckett · 24/02/2020 12:16

I realy like Ash and River! had a talk with the hubby and these are our shortlist :

Cypress River (either gender)
Ash Schopenhauer (if it is aboy, Owen teaches philisophy and really likes that as a unique middle name)
River Juniper (if it is a girl)

I am a twin and twins run in the family, so we are thinking of having a shortlist that we can pick from Grin

Im confused... do you mean 'good first names' as opposed to a 'christian' name..... ??!!

Strange choice of words if you dont want a 'christian' or religious name?!

A 'christian' name is a baptismal name given to a person of christian belief....

OnABeachSomewhere · 29/02/2020 01:57

Rowan
Leo
Ashley

Raven
Lilia
Pearl

mathanxiety · 29/02/2020 05:15

A 'christian' name is a baptismal name given to a person of christian belief

Not so fast...
It's a term commonly used in Ireland for 'first name' regardless of religious belief or affiliation.

mathanxiety · 29/02/2020 05:18

@Meredithpuckett you shouldn't use identifying information such as your H's name plus his occupation. Maybe ask MNHQ to edit out his name. You can do this by clicking 'Report' on the same line your username appears on in your posts on a PC, or clicking the three little dots on Android phone (not sure how the app works on iPhone.)

Bezalelle · 29/02/2020 05:52

Why call them Christian names if you ain't religious? Call them "first names" or "given names".

Booboostwo · 29/02/2020 06:24

If you are going for a philosophical name Nietzsche is by far the most difficult to spell.

mathanxiety · 29/02/2020 06:27

It's a feature of Irish English, Bezalelle. Not so easy to shrug off a phrase and adopt a new one if it's a common phrase in your language. (Assuming from the OP's use of 'Mammy' and 'Christian names' that she is Irish, also from the name of her H).

whitetoblerone · 29/02/2020 06:49

The OP states she wants Christian names, but then makes it clear she means first names as she's not religious. I also picked up on an Irish link.

Sounds like you've got a good shortlist there, OP. not my tastes, but all of those names do actually sound nice together. How do you pronounce the boys middle name?

MiniGuinness · 29/02/2020 06:49

It's a feature of Irish English, you do know that modern day Ireland is multicultural don’t you? It may have been common in the 1970s but not any more. Even my elderly granny stopped using it in the 90s.
