As the title says. We are team yellow and have a boys name picked out (Thomas) but can’t decide between Phoebe and Órla. Older sister is Niamh 😊

Both are nice. I prefer Phoebe but Orla may work better with Niamh.

MrsBungle · 22/02/2020 23:54

I think Orla is much nicer than phoebe.

Elliesmommy · 22/02/2020 23:54

I like Orla - spelt like that. Theres no fada over the O

DramaAlpaca · 22/02/2020 23:58

I think Órla would be better with Niamh. With Phoebe, the first syllable rhyming with Niamh would put me off.

Also, if you are in the UK you might want to think about losing the fada off Orla, it's not necessary in English anyway and most Irish people don't use it.

Whatsyourflava · 23/02/2020 00:13

Phoebe by a mile
Just such a great name

schafernaker · 23/02/2020 00:15

@Elliesmommy in your opinion there's no fada however it is an accepted spelling 😊
Without the fada and spelt Orla, the name in gaelic means "vomit." So I'll pop the fada on to be safe

My dd’s are Niamh and Orla...I love them together

jadey0885 · 23/02/2020 00:30

Orla....phoebe is too common... congrats btw

Changedname81 · 23/02/2020 06:47

I know a sibset with both these names ☺️
Personally I love Phoebe

Thirder · 23/02/2020 06:52

I'm in Ireland and have never seen a fada on the O. It would change the pronunciation too, which might be confusing.
Orla is lovely. Other nice Irish names are Roisín (with a fada!) and Gráinne.

GeraltOfRivia · 23/02/2020 07:00

I love Phoebe

eandz13 · 23/02/2020 07:08

Both lovely names, but I agree I think Orla works well with Niamh.

Phoebe

Elliesmommy · 23/02/2020 08:00

I know a lot of "vomits" then!!!! If the fada makes you feel better then Go for it. It's your baby.

Crookshanksthecat · 23/02/2020 08:03

Phoebe is a lovely name and getting less common now.
Really don't like Orla.

SallyWD · 23/02/2020 08:06

I love Orla. Its one of my favourite names. Phoebe's OK.

Astronica · 23/02/2020 08:51

Both lovely names and both work beautifully with sister Niamh. My favourite is Phoebe.

Mamabear88 · 23/02/2020 13:57

Phoebe

Palavah · 23/02/2020 14:00

Orla / Órla

TopOfTheGherkin · 23/02/2020 14:02

They are both really lovely names. I think Orla continues the Irish theme of Niamh nicely. But Phoebe is a gorgeous name fir a baby, a teenager, a woman. Sorry, that’s probably not much help!

CaffiSaliMali · 23/02/2020 14:03

Both lovely, but I'd pair Niamh with Orla.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 23/02/2020 15:09

Why not use Orlaith to fit with Niamh
It's still pronounced Orla isn't it?
More than happy to be corrected Smile

user1493494961 · 23/02/2020 15:23

Much prefer Phoebe. I suppose it depends on where you live but there are so many Isla's, Lila's and Lola's about, Orla just seems to be another variation.

Hoodygoody111 · 23/02/2020 15:53

Phoebe

RoseReally · 23/02/2020 15:57

I've never seen Orla with a fada either. Lovely name and goes better with Niamh in my opinion. If you live in the UK I would be put off by the 'Awla' pronunciation though. Phoebe is also very nice!
