Love Ivy, Jude and Mabel. I like Lottie as a diminutive as Charlotte. Not keen on the others.

Crunchymum · 21/02/2020 10:13

Love Jude for a boy. Not keen on any of the others though.

Girls I don't like Harlow, Harper, Sunnie, Avery, Hallie or Dottie at all. The rest are all very nice. I'd spell Ayda as Ada though.

I did have Indiana on list for DC2 but went for something completely different in the end.

CalleighDoodle · 21/02/2020 10:14

Connie
Harper
Jude

LochJessMonster · 21/02/2020 10:16

Girls - Hallie and Lottie are my favourite. Not keen on names like Mabel/Florence.

Boys- Jude is the only one I like, sorry! In order -Jude, Albie, Remi, Colby

Flyingtoast · 21/02/2020 10:17

Mabel - cute
Florence - Love, will be my girls name if I ever have another
Hallie - cute
Connie - not a fan
Dottie - cute
Orla - ok
Ivy - love
Avery - not a fan
Ayda - not a fan
Indiana - it's different, I think I like it
Hattie - adorable
Sunnie - sweet
Lottie - love
Harper - not a fan
Harlow - not a fan
Thea - not a fan but I like Theadora

Don't like the boys names but I've never found any boys name I like, so don't listen to me on that!

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 21/02/2020 10:18

Tbh they're not really my taste. I do quite like Ivy and Thea off your girl list though.

There are loads of little Albies round my way at the moment, if you are trying to avoid popular names.

chloee1508 · 21/02/2020 10:25

Yes to Hallie, Orla, Ivy, Hattie, Harper. Not to keen on any of those boys names but would go with Jude out of all.

Lavenderblues · 21/02/2020 10:31

I quite like Florence and Orla.

Don't like your boys names

AshleighSarah · 21/02/2020 10:35

I really struggle with boys names as there’s a lot of boys in the family who have taken all the names I likeSad

Astronica · 21/02/2020 12:14

Favourites:

Remi (though like Remy better). How about Rory?

Whatsyourflava · 21/02/2020 12:17

If you’re struggling with boys names @AshleighSarah , here’s some suggestions. I love Albie and Jude though and think you should consider sticking to one of them:

Ones with good nicknames:

Christopher nn Kit
Wilf(red)
Barnaby
Nathan/Nathaniel - Nate
Rafferty / Raffy
Sidney

Other ideas:

Eli
Ellis
Miles / Milo
Seth
Cole
Otis
Eric
Casper
Rudy/Rudi
Dexter
Blake
Angus
Dominic
Idris
Percy
Chester
Caleb

Slightly more out- there

River
Bodhi
Otto

MikeUniformMike · 21/02/2020 12:23

OK or reasonably ok:
Mabel
Florence
Connie
Dottie
Hattie
Lottie

Boys:
Jude - I don't like it but it was the only one that was not truly awful.

DramaAlpaca · 22/02/2020 01:24

We clearly don't have similar taste in names, but:

Jude is OK for a boy. The others are awful.

For a girl I like Florence & Orla. Mabel & Ivy are OK. The rest are either diminutives of longer names (Connie, Lottie), too twee (Sunnie, Hallie), or really ugly (Avery, Harper, Harlow & Thea).

Jossina · 22/02/2020 01:48

Girls:
Like: Florence, Ivy
Like as a nickname for another name: Connie for Constance, Thea for Theodora/Dorthea
So-so: Harlow, Harper, Orla, Mabel,
Hate: Sunnie, Dottie, Ayda, Indiana, Hattie, Lottie

Avery sounds better for a boy IMO.

BOYS
Albie : as a nickname for Albert or Alban it's fine
Colby: eh, better as a cheese, though a bit cowboyish
Jude: not bad
Remi: only as a nickname

diddlediddle · 22/02/2020 03:47

I dislike names for both boys and girls that end in "ie" - they seem nicknamey and unbearably twee. They're ok if there's a longer version to use in adulthood.

Girls:
Mabel - don't mind it
Florence - overdone but ok
Hallie - nice if there's a long version
Connie - Constance
Dottie - Dorothy
Orla - nice
Ivy - ok, at least is a proper name
Avery - meh
Ayda - ok but will get buried under a million similar sounding names that are v popular
Indiana - ok
Hattie - harriet
Sunnie - absolutely not
Lottie - Charlotte
Harper - tolerable
Harlow - American
Thea - nice

BOYS
Albie - Albert?
Colby - American
Jude - nice
Remi - ok

chrestomamci · 22/02/2020 04:00

Girls:
Mabel - cute
Florence - love this but not the nn Flo

Hallie - not keen makes me think parent trap
Connie - really like this one.
Dottie - no

Orla - lovely. I know a few grown up ones very pretty name
Ivy - cute! Lots currently in my baby groups. Wouldn’t bother me but if you don’t want a popular name ...
Avery - cute
Ayda - I think you’d spend ages battling with it being mispronounced as Ada / having to spell it out
Indiana - cute
Hattie - not keen
Sunnie - no
Lottie - I’m a fan but I think a lot of people will assume it’s short for Charlotte
Harper - not keen
Harlow - cute but again meeting lots of them at baby groups so if popular names bother you ...
Thea - same as above

BOYS
Albie - not keen but it’s very popular.
Colby - no
Jude - love it
Remi - I like it

AshleighSarah · 22/02/2020 07:31

Thanks everyone, I think I’ve narrowed it down a bit to
Girls:
Mabel
Ivy
Orla

Boys:
Albie
Jude

I like Mabel and Albie together as they have the same sound with the ‘b’ in the middle and the ‘l’ sound which is why I’ve kept them both at the top of my list. My other dd’s name is Lilah, which also has the ‘l’ so I find them cohesive but not too matchy, thanks everyone for your opinions.

Lifesabeach86 · 22/02/2020 07:57

LOVE all your girls names apart from Indiana and Harlow

mossyroundhill · 22/02/2020 08:25

Orla is the best out of those three in my opinion. I can't imagine a 30 year old called Mabel, and Ivy has always sounded very harsh to me. Albie is nice (DS's name Grin) but agree with PP that it's better to have it as a nickname for a longer version so they have a more adult name they can choose to use as they get bigger.

Lavenderblues · 22/02/2020 15:16

Is Albie short for Albert or Albus? It sounds like a nickname.

ElfishBiatch · 22/02/2020 15:20

I like Florence, Orla and Ivy only.
Jude is the best of the boys names.

Poorolddaddypig · 23/02/2020 17:15

Mabel and Jude are lovely
