Avonlea?

Might just be my hormones but I recently have been obsessed with the possibility of having a little girl named Avonlea.
It's a fictional literary place name from Anne of Green Gables but it sounds like it would fit so well with all of the other vowel girls names with v sounds ( i.e. Olivia, Ava, Evie)
DH said he'd consider it if we could find a cute middle name for it so send some suggestions. We both prefer short middle names as our last name is quite long.

It sounds like a new build Barrat estate in Tamworth or something.

Omashu · 19/02/2020 00:56

Oh I adore Anne of Green gables so I knew it was related to that as soon as I saw it!

I don’t think it’s the best name though, personally.

catlady3 · 19/02/2020 00:56

I read on mumsnet somewhere that at some point towards the end of the pregnancy, you will come up with the perfect original name for your baby, it may even come to you in a dream. The advice - do not under any circumstances go with it!! I think you've happened upon such a name op 😉

lemontreebird · 19/02/2020 00:58

It's a butter, isn't it?

IOYOYO · 19/02/2020 00:59

Sounds entirely geographical op, for god’s sake don’t do it. Sorry!

Astronica · 19/02/2020 01:58

The sounds are pretty but I couldn't stand going through life with every person saying 'Anne of Green Gables' back to me. It's so obvious what it is that it's painful - and best left in the book I think. I agree with pp that Cordelia is a better choice if you want to reference the book.

Astronica · 19/02/2020 05:46

Just to add, I do think it would make a nice middle name, eg Lily Avonlea, Phoebe Avonlea.

Cbeebiesrehab · 19/02/2020 07:40

Someone help me out...is it pronounced Av-on-Leah?

HeronLanyon · 19/02/2020 07:46

Dairylea Avondale mashup.
Otherwise a B and B with pampas grass!!

Clangus00 · 19/02/2020 07:47

Yes @cbeebies

ScarlettBlaize · 19/02/2020 07:50

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought Dairylea

CherryPavlova · 19/02/2020 07:53

It sounds like a suburb of Bristol.

BelfastNonBlonde · 19/02/2020 07:53

Is it not a dairy company?

MrsAgassi · 19/02/2020 07:55

When I first saw it I thought river or cheese, I see I’m not alone!

Sorry OP but it is awful. Can you imagine if the short version of your name was Avon (which is what she’ll undoubtedly be called when she gets to school).

AuntieStella · 19/02/2020 07:56

Marilla's a good idea

Idontkowmyname · 19/02/2020 07:57

Makes me think of that fake cream called Elmlea

ExtraFox18 · 19/02/2020 07:58

Sounds like a cross between a face cream and a soft cheese to me.

HeronLanyon · 19/02/2020 08:09

scarlett I’m always on verge of thinking about dairylea. Can’t buy it as once the red string has been utilised the whole thing is eaten in one go !

pinkyredrose · 19/02/2020 08:11

Please don't! Sounds like a pound shop dairy product.

Theroigne · 19/02/2020 08:12

Sounds like a brand of West Country cheese. Please don’t.

Theroigne · 19/02/2020 08:12

Actually @pinkyredrose has said it better than me!

HeronLanyon · 19/02/2020 08:12

Actually it sounds ‘eavenly’

ScarlettBlaize · 19/02/2020 08:54

@HeronLanyon
I don't even eat cheese! It just really looks like it Grin

Canshopwillshop · 19/02/2020 08:56

That’s the name of the B&B round the corner from me!

ViserionTheDragon · 19/02/2020 09:00

Don't do that to the poor child. If you really must, use it as a middle name and give her a sensible first name.
