So finding it sooo hard to find girls names we like, oh loves Nadia, we also both like Raya and we both like Harla what do you think of these names? And is it so normal to be finding it so difficult to get any names we really like? I feel so deflated trying to find one:/

Raya and Nadia are both lovely, but to me Harla sounds like Harlot!

sleepymummy2019 · 18/02/2020 20:36

I like Nadia. Reya and Harla sound (sorry!) very ugly to me.

Lola, Mara, Ida?

Yes it’s normal, we couldn’t decide on a name until baby was a few weeks old 🙂

DonEmmanuelsDingleberries · 18/02/2020 21:12

I like Nadia and Raya, but agree with @AlbertaWildRose that Harla is too close to harlot for my liking.

What about Reeva, Marla, or Naia?

CakeandCoffeeQueen · 18/02/2020 21:30

I think Harla sounds like Carla

user1493494961 · 18/02/2020 21:32

Nadia is OK, Harla is awful, sounds made-up.

Maduixa · 18/02/2020 22:48

I love Raya - it's a nice sound, it has the connotation of a ray of light, and it makes me think of socialist and feminist activist and theorist Raya Dunayevskaya. She was born in what's now Ukraine, in 1910, and changed her name to Rae when she moved to the US. Raya has a very Slavic feel to me - could be tied to Rachel, but doesn't have to be. Rae/Ray is a nice nickname. Nadia also feels Slavic.

I'd consider: Anastasia, Alicia, Alyssa, Anja/Anya, Aria/Arya, Celia, Freya, Julia, Lilja/Lilya, Maia/Maja/Maya, Natasha, Niamh/Neve, Sofia/Sofya, Sonia/Sonja/Sonya, Sylvia/Sylvie, Tania/Tanya, Thalia, Zoia/Zoe.

I have no idea about Harla (never heard it before - maybe a girl version of Harlan?) but if you like the sound - consider Alexandra, Alina, Bella, Calla, Carla/Karla, Carly, Charlene, Charlotte, Daria, Darla, Darleen, Ella, Fionnula, Kayla, Kendra, Leda, Lena, Lydia, Marla, Marlene, Marley, Marya, Nola, Nuala, Orla, Petra, Scarlet, Sandra, Starla.

Nadia and Raya are both nice names.

Winkywoop · 18/02/2020 22:52

I like Nadia

Thalia
Sumaya
Aliya
Alina
Selene

Chocolatecake12 · 18/02/2020 22:55

Love Nadia. Very underused.
How about Naomi or Cara as an alternative?

yogo · 18/02/2020 23:06

Harlow, Maya, Lydia, Gaia, Isla.

Omashu · 19/02/2020 01:16

I only like Raya from your choices.

Astronica · 19/02/2020 01:55

I think both Nadia and Raya are good names. I'd cross off Harla though.

IckleBear · 19/02/2020 04:06

I like Nadia

Overthinker1988 · 19/02/2020 10:38

Ooh one of them is my name, glad people like it.
I like your choices, other than Harla. But, I don't like the way English speakers pronounce Raya. It's an Eastern European name that's meant to be pronounced Rai-ya, people here pronounce it to rhyme with Freya.

MikeUniformMike · 19/02/2020 11:03

Nadia - ok, not keen
Raya - prefer Roya
Harla - dreadful, sounds like Harlot

StormDenise · 19/02/2020 11:08

Nadia is my favourite, DS has a lovely and very cool friend called Nadia and it suits her!

Raya is also nice.

Don't like Harla- sounds like a made up and unfinished name. Harlan? Harlow?

Greywind1523 · 19/02/2020 17:32

I’m not keen on Nadia as there seems to be two accepted pronunciations Nad-e-ya or Nar-de-ya.

I like Raya but don’t like Harla.

Have you thought of Marla?

MichaelMosleyisagod · 19/02/2020 17:34

Lara?
