Winter

Name changed as this could be outing.
DP and I are expecting our second baby, a girl, in March. We already have one son called Milo and we're pretty set on Winter for this baby however the issue is that we can't agree on middle names.
Ds has a beautiful Swahili middle name as it's DP's family's first language and the name he would use when he visits his parents in Kenya (their children also use middle names when visiting family there as English names can have different meanings or be mispronounced) as they plan to move back in the near future.
The dilemma is that I had planned on dd having two middle names, Uzuri, which is Swahili and Alice, after my great grandmother as it would mean a lot to my mum however DP is saying there's no need to give her two middle names and I should just choose one. I argued that both are important to me and I can't imagine not using either. So the question is would you go with:
Winter Uzuri
Winter Uzuri Alice
Winter Alice
FWIW dp has a slight complex about using 'black' names and says it will put the children at a disadvantage despite them having an obviously African last name and so I suspect he's hoping I'll drop Uzuri.

Many larger companies anonymise most CVS already. In 15-20 years it’ll be standard practise as it’s been shown to increase the number of women and ethnic minorities getting through to interview stage

ElphiasDoge · 18/02/2020 12:33

Could you argue for a Winter Alice Uzuri? That’s beautiful and if one is dropped it would be Uzuri (form too long or whatever). I think it’s a beautiful name!

It shouldn’t matter and CVs are increasingly anonymised as PP says but we do know it has been a thing and still is. As Winter is a little unusual having Alice next maybe makes it more British sounding. God I hated writing that! It would be my preferred order anyway, but might be worth suggesting to DP?

Congratulations!!

Winter Alice is too similar to Winter Palace.
I'm not keen on Winter.
Alice and Uzuri are both nice.

FizzyGreenWater · 18/02/2020 12:42

Two middle names.

a. sounds nicer - Winter Alice is a bit odd somehow, think it does sound like Winter Palace!

b. 'no need'? - if that's the strength of his opposition then the obvious reply is 'I want to so I will'

c. you're already using his surname when really it should be yours, so he gets no further say really.

TatianaLarina · 18/02/2020 16:56

Milo is great. But Winter doesn’t really go and it’s is an odd name for a baby born in March.

Uzuri is a great middle name. Why not Alice Uzuri?

Wintersun13 · 18/02/2020 18:39

I'm not sure I understand - I mean, who puts their middle name on their CV ? Plus as they already have an African last name this is gonna make zero difference, for better or worse.

If your DP has no better reason to object than "no need", I agree that you should tell him it matters to you. It won't do any harm and it'll make you happy.

I think I'd put Uzuri second because she'll probably use it more often than her other middle name. So Winter Uzuri Alice. She'll use Winter in the UK and Uzuri in Kenya, but she'll probably never use Alice except on forms and passport applications.

AuntieStella · 18/02/2020 18:43

I would expect Winter to be a boy (traditionally was) so in terms of names and expectations on CVs, it could be a little problematic anyhow.

So just go for what you like best

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/02/2020 18:46

What about Alice Uzuri?
That's a lovely name.

SoupDragon · 18/02/2020 18:46

Uzuri is a great middle name. Why not Alice Uzuri?

That's what I thought.

who puts their middle name on their CV
I do! I thought most people did.
