All the Francescas I know go by Franchi/Franci.

OnABeachSomewhere · 18/02/2020 09:59

I like Frances best.

IVflytrap · 18/02/2020 12:34

I much prefer Frances. It's a well-known girls name, so I don't think people will see it as masculine.

FizzyGreenWater · 18/02/2020 12:38

Was just coming on to say that Frances is pretty rare now - I know so many more boys Francis (which I think is awful) that I'd avoid Frances too really - although it is much nicer for a girl.

Francesca is lovely as you have the option of Cesca (Chesca) too.

Frankenstein

glitterbiscuits · 18/02/2020 13:31

Frankincense?

But I'd assume Thomas and Frankie were boys.

Ive got a Frankie, long name Francesca. Love her name, only ever met 1 or 2 others. We call her Frankie about 90% of the time. Francesca very much a sunday or you are in bother name.

Francesca is lovely and with Frankie it gives her two very different styles to choose between.

Lavenderblues · 19/02/2020 07:50

I'd also assume Frankie is a boy. Nickname for Frank.

Frances and Francesca are nice girls names, shortened to Franci.

Nowayorhighway · 19/02/2020 09:27

My Great Aunt is Francis, I never even considered it a male name. The Frankie’s I have known were all Francesca.

MikeUniformMike · 19/02/2020 09:36

Francis is a boy's name. @Nowayorhighway.
Frances is a girl's name.

aquietlifeplease · 19/02/2020 09:55

If you want to call your child Frankie rather than scraping around for a name it's a nickname to why not just call the child Frankie Hmm. Nicknames should come naturally not be forced because for some unknown reason you won't actually name your child the name you want to call it!

DameHannahRelf · 19/02/2020 10:08

Frankincense, Frankfurter, Frankinstein... [Sorry I couldn't restist].

I thiknk I prefer Francesca to Francis.

DameHannahRelf · 19/02/2020 10:11

My son has a nickname for a name (it's a shortened version of a few names), because I didn't want teachers etc being assholes, and insisting on using the wrong full version, (and the version I had in mind was the more unusual, possibly embarrassing one). So the shortened version is on his bc.

DameHannahRelf · 19/02/2020 10:14

*Frances, rather. Though I'm pretty sure I know at least one female Francis?

user1493494961 · 19/02/2020 10:45

Francesca.

leonardthelemming · 19/02/2020 11:13

Francesca, but be prepared for her to be called Frannie by her school friends, especially if there is another Francesca in the same class/year group.
