Ok? What kind of thing are you looking for?

TildaTurnip · 17/02/2020 16:51

I get less tired hearing traditional names that are well used compared to names that have cropped up more again in the last few years.

For some reason hearing lots of Tom or Henry doesn’t seem to be as obvious as hearing Leo or Arthur.

So weirdly, names that have never really peaked and dipped and remained constant stand out less for me!

How about K3ith. Nice working class name, with a modern spelling.

I agree and know so so many boys/men called Steve, Mike, Tom, Oliver, Andy, Jack, Harry etc. I need to know their surname to know which one we're talking about Shock!

How about

Look at themes - Charles Dickens characters, Shakespeare, nature inspired, Old Testament, New Testament, Saints, etc.

If you look at lists you will look at Aaron, Adam, ... Zachary, Zander

If you look at top 100 names for 2019 you will get a fairly well-used name. Look at top 100 names for 1919 or 1938 or 1959 and you might find something a bit more unusual.

If you ask on here, chances are you will get a list of currently popular names.

This one is quite interesting:

Both about to go extinct

Stanford
Clement
Otto
Bartholomew
Judah
Asher
Mitchell
Roland

Chocolatecake12 · 17/02/2020 17:23

There’s a reason you keep seeing the same Names - they’re the popular names of the time.
If you want something unusual then you have to look at names from a previous time as pp suggested - 1938 for example.
Unless you want to make a name up. Then no-one will have heard if it!

TulipCat · 17/02/2020 17:29

@ChicChicChicChiclana I giggling at the idea of a baby called Bernard Smile.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 17/02/2020 17:31

Go for current adult names:
Alan
Phillip
Mark
Lee
Christopher
Timothy
Robert
Stephen
Geraint
Kevin

Alwaysscrolling · 17/02/2020 17:55

I think people care too much about trying to be unique when actually how you raise your child will be what makes them unique. I have a jack and I couldn’t care less that it’s common. He’s my jack and he’s one in a million.

MikeUniformMike · 17/02/2020 18:18

Don't go for Geraint. It's old fashioned in Wales and gets mispronounced in English.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/02/2020 19:20

Gavin. Paul. Wilbur. Kevin. Alan. Derry. Lucian. Marcus. Christopher. Cooper.
John. Steven. Cole. Simon. Richard.

Lavenderblues · 17/02/2020 19:29

Gavin. Paul, John. Steven. Simon. Richard are still very much in use in the adult population. I know several of all of them.

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/02/2020 19:29

Philip/Pip
James/Jimmy
Gregor
Sylvester
Lyall
Charles

Bit a mixed bag, what sort of style are you after OP?

MikeUniformMike · 17/02/2020 19:37

The Shakespearean names are a bit dodgy.

Royal names are a source of fairly safe ones. Philip, Michael, Charles, Elizabeth, Louise, Sarah etc

Family names can be a good source.

I like old fashioned names - Dennis, Winston, Alan, etc

Krazynights34 · 17/02/2020 19:42

Lucius
Darryn/Darren
Justin
Jonah
Elliot
Jeremiah/Jeremy
Horace
Hector
Terrance
Giuseppe
Sebastian
Joseph
Timothy
Benedict
Bernard
Gerald
Damien
Dickon
Francis

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 17/02/2020 20:11
