Imogen, Lorna or Sophie

Hello, was hoping to get some opinions on the following girls names for our little one due in a few weeks:

Imogen
Lorna
Sophie

Middle name would ideally either be Margaret (or an associated name such as Megan, Greta or Pearl), Isla or Heather as they are all family names.

Thank you!

I like Imogen and Sophie, don't like Lorna at all.

newtothis20 · 13/02/2020 16:38

Thanks everyone, have taken Lorna off the list as it was my least favourite of the three but was interested to see what others thought. Will go with Sophie or Imogen, probably with Margaret, Greta or Heather as a middle name

Lorna was on my list because I loved Lorna Dione so it captures a certain kind of romance to me. I went with Lydia instead, in the end.

I don’t much care for Sophie as it’s a bit safe and to me sounds 1980s.

Like Imogen

newtothis20 · 13/02/2020 16:41

Imogen Heather
Imogen Greta
Sophie Margaret

I tried to read Lorna Doone as an adult - to be sad to find that it was dreadful. Great narrative ruined by strange Victorian whimsical writing.

TatianaLarina · 13/02/2020 16:56

Imogen Heather is my favourite.

Heather was quite popular in the 80s but you don’t hear it so much now. And it’s such a lovely wild plant.

Narcheska · 13/02/2020 16:58

Imogen ... I'm biased as have my beautiful 3 month old Imogen next to me.

I wouldn't. Say it's overly popular I don't know a single one apart from mine

Nowayorhighway · 13/02/2020 17:18

Sophie. Lorna is extremely outdated, it’s very 1970s and I’ve never been keen on Imogen.

Satsuma2 · 13/02/2020 17:30

I really don't like any of them but would have to pick Lorna If push came to shove.

Whatsyourflava · 13/02/2020 18:06

I think that’s a great decision @newtothis20
Imogen or Sophie are such gorgeous names (don’t like Lorna)

I’d focus on which name you prefer out of imogen or Sophie and take it from there. I personally don’t really think it matters if a first and middle name flow perfectly. Plus once you hear a name a few times, it goes anyway if that makes sense. Me and my siblings have very different style names but they all sound right when you say them together as they’ve been said together so many times. A bit like “Richard and Judy” if that makes any sense whatsoever

Dislike Lorna, think it's an ugly name. Really like Imogen, think it's quite elegant. Prefer Sophia to Sophie.

IggyAce · 13/02/2020 18:14

Imogen: love this but I’m biased as it’s dd name. Be prepared for unusual nn my dd is Midge but some friends called her Idgy at primary. Also Immi, Mog and Iggy are potentials.

Lorna: like this and it’s unusual. Lorri is a cute nn.

Sophie: dull boring and too popular.

RoseMartha · 13/02/2020 18:22

Lorna Pearl

Jojobythesea · 13/02/2020 18:24

Oooooo. Imogen Pearl 😍😍 pretty

Lonan · 13/02/2020 18:38

Lorna Pearl

bluemoon2468 · 13/02/2020 19:34

I like Imogen a lot. Not a fan of Lorna. There's nothing actually wrong with Sophie, it's just so bland from overuse that it barely even registers as a name to me any more, it's so hard to have an opinion on it (I know/have known about 30 different Sophies, probably more).

newtothis20 · 13/02/2020 19:55

Thank you everyone, we’re decided to go with Imogen and one of these middle names:

Imogen Heather
Imogen Pearl
Imogen Greta

Appreciate all comments, you’ve really helped!

Sophie I like. Really dislike the other two.

WaxOnFeckOff · 13/02/2020 21:08

Shame you've taken Lorna of the list. I see you've decided on Imogen which is nice, but I'm a big fan of Lorna, I had boys so no opportunity to use it though.

Whatsyourflava · 13/02/2020 21:12

Yay @newtothis20 excellent choice!

I think I like imogen pearl best from your list. Huge fan of the name Pearl too
I like heather but I remember reading on MN a couple of months back that people thought it a bit of an American cheerleader type name and that stuck with me as I think the poster was on to something there
Greta would be nice too but I prefer Pearl

IVflytrap · 13/02/2020 21:13

I would have said Lorna, but as you've narrowed it down now, I think Imogen Pearl is the nicest combination. But all your middle names go well, to be honest. Smile

(I don't get where a pp said Imogen is harsh, as to me it's made up entirely of "soft" letters).

Astronica · 13/02/2020 23:37

I was coming in to say I love Imogen and Sophie and see you've already decided on Imogen. All 3 combos you have work well but my favourite is Imogen Greta.
