I like Talitha (Ta-LEE-tha/Tal-EE-tha) very much. My cousin is considering it. Definitely prefer it to Tabitha, which I don't like tbh, sorry to anyone I may offend. I don't consider those names connected or similar. Unless I've been pronouncing Tabitha wrong and it's actually "Tabeetha".
I don't understand people saying Talitha sounds like speech impediment (rude) or like you can't pronounce Tabitha. Maybe those writing that aren't familiar with the name Talitha and aren't pronouncing Talitha properly, or how I know it to be pronounced anyway. Which may be an issue OP, but I wouldn't let it stand in your way if you really like it.
Tabitha and Talitha don't sound very similar to me. They aren't pronounced in the same way. Talitha is Ta-LEE-tha or Tal-EEE-tha. Tabitha isn't pronounced Ta-BEE-tha or Tab-EEE-tha is it.
Hard to explain pronunciations/differences but unlike Talitha, in Tabitha there is not strong emphasis/prolonged sound of "i" sound, it's a short "i" sound. Tabitha doesn't have a emphasised BEE sound in the middle does it, more like bi of biscuit, and emphasis more on the TA. Like Tabby-tha Tabbi-tha, Tab-ith-a , idk how to write it, probably TA-bith-a, TAB-ith-a, TA-bitha, TAA-bith-a. ?? Haha. Whereas Talitha is emphasis LEE or EE like the ee from bee, in the middle not "li" like lick, and not "lith" like Lithuania. NOT ta-lith-a. It's Ta-LEE-tha /Tal-EE-tha. So yeh the two names don't sound alike the way I know how to pronounce them anyway. They don't have the same sound of the "i" or the same emphasis, if that's the right way to explain it.
Ta-LEE-tha, Tal-EE-tha VS Ta-bith-a, TA-bitha, TAB-ith-a, TA-bith-a, TAB-itha, TAA-bith-a.
Haha! Point is, we couldn't be mispronouncing Tabitha when we say Talitha, people writing that must be mispronouncing Talitha
. Unfamiliar people reading it may mispronounce it as if it's like Tabitha, they'd be wrong, but it's ok I have a name people have to learn to pronounce.
(Btw I know some have different versions of Talitha, like Ta-LEE-ta too. Wiki page for Talitha says "In Brazil, Talita (or Talitha/Thalita) was the 100th most common name for newborn girls in 2009.")
In conclusion, I like Ta-LEE-tha/Tal-EE-tha a lot, and it's not like Tabitha. Sorry if I put you off with this long winded explanation. You/your child might have to explain pronunciation to the unfamiliar. Hopefully you'll do better than me. Of course anyone can decide to pronounce a name differently. Someone here did say TAL-itha or TAHL-itha, which does sound nice.
