I'm quite fond of the name Romy for a girl, what do you all think?

Also, how would you spell it? Romy or Romi? Or another alternative?

I wanted Romy (roe-me) but DH vetoed, I liked Romily too though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Funkycats · 08/02/2020 14:07

I know a Romy. It isn't a nickname; it's her full name. I really like it (and she seems perfectly happy with it which is what really counts!)

GiveHerHellFromUs · 08/02/2020 16:30

Oh I don't like the pronunciation

Thefaceofboe · 08/02/2020 18:42

What about Romany?

pantsville · 08/02/2020 21:32

First of all it’s a lovely name and it would be a real contender if I were having a baby. It’s fresh, simple to spell and pronounce and will suit someone of any age. It ticks a lot of boxes.

Secondly, on here people generally have a massive aversion to any name that could potentially be considered a nickname of something. Lots of “nicknames” stand in their own right these days. You can be just Beth without being Bethany. It’s normal to be Alfie without being Alfred. You don’t NEED to have a long, formal name hidden behind what people actually call you.

DameSylvieKrin · 08/02/2020 21:35

I know a baby Romy.
Seems like a glamorous name to me because of Romy Schneider.

yogo · 08/02/2020 21:36

My cousin is Romy.

It's a real name not a nickname and she's the only one I know.

Booboostwo · 08/02/2020 21:45

I wouldn’t have guessed the Roe-me pronunciation, you may end up having to correct quite a few people.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 08/02/2020 21:48

I love Romy! Its beautiful. It doesn't have to be short for anything although it can be a diminutive of Rosemary but I like it on it's own!

I personally love Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion but that's not a movie that is going to be popular enough to stand the test of time. You're good!!

Deadringer · 08/02/2020 21:49

I like it.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 08/02/2020 21:55

What Booboostwo said. I would never of thought to pronounced it roe-me I think a lot of people will assume Rom-me.
I think it’s nice but prefer Remi I think

Booboostwo · 09/02/2020 14:02

Why not spell it Roemie like Noemie? That will get you the pronunciation you want more straight forwardly.

limpingparrot · 09/02/2020 14:04

Romy Schneider is quite a well known actress.
Remi is a boys name

Flymetothestars · 09/02/2020 14:20

How about Roxanna or Roxanne with nn Roxy?

MikeUniformMike · 09/02/2020 14:26

Roemie is truly dreadful.
Roxanne will always be The Police song for me.

swansloveiceskating · 09/02/2020 14:34

I think Roemie is a bit of a confusing spelling and it isn't obvious how to pronounce it.

I'd stick to Romy or Romi and tell people the pronunciation, the name it's that unusual.

daisypond · 09/02/2020 14:38

Romy is fine. Pronounced roe-me. I thought it was quite well known. Never use Romany - unless you are, of course.

Batmanandrobin123 · 09/02/2020 15:28

I think its beautiful. I know a Romy Wren (middle name Wren) and she really suits it. It's simple but pretty, easy to spell/pronounce, perfect.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 09/02/2020 15:36

I love Romy Wren - that is stunning! I also just thought about:

Romy Autumn
Romy Aurora
Romy Alodia
Romy Audria

So easy to come up with beautiful combos. I dont see the issue with pronunciation at all when it's like Rome! I think it's pretty intuitive.

DejaVoodoo · 09/02/2020 17:35

I don’t like it at all. Just makes me think “Roomy”

Sorry.

Loli2 · 13/02/2020 23:10

Romy is lovely

Also like Roma

MarshaBradyo · 13/02/2020 23:12

Romy - I did know one, full name, I like it much more than the alternatives suggested
