Opinions on the name? I think it's lovely but my DH isn't a fan

That wouldn't be a good choice. Pick another name.

NoSauce · 03/02/2020 07:19

Are you kidding!

Urkiddingright · 03/02/2020 10:54

Of course he can’t have two son’s called Benedict and Benjamin, it’s weird! Both almost always get shortened to Ben.

milliefiori · 03/02/2020 10:57

Not if he has a brother called Benjamin, obviously!

If you like those long, elegant names how about:

Sebastian
Fidelis
Theodore
Maximillian
Frederick
Augustus

Do people call their kids Benedict? It makes me think of Benedict Arnold. Either way, you can't replace the Australian Ben with another Ben Shock

Sunshineand · 03/02/2020 11:01
  • Benedict Arnold is an American phrase for a traitor/someone who commits treason.
RightOnTheEdge · 03/02/2020 11:04

I love the name Benedict, I've only every met one in real life and he's great, really funny and cool so I associate the name with good things.

He's known as, Ben though. You really can't have Benjamin and Benedict unfortunately.

Hepsibar · 03/02/2020 11:39

It's peeving you cant have this lovely name but I think it would be very undermining and thoughtless for Benjamin. There are many lovely names, AngusDuck has highlighted some but here are some more suggestions:
Bartholomew
Montgomery
Dominic
Guy
Leo

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 03/02/2020 11:57

I see how it could be confusing but my DH never see's his other son as he lives in Australia so I didn't think it would be an issue.

He's still his son Hmm

pollywobble · 03/02/2020 12:35

I have a godson called Benedict, he's always been a Ned

spiderlight · 03/02/2020 13:28

Awesome name but he can't have two sons called Ben, sorry.

Nancydrawn · 03/02/2020 13:50

OP, I was having an awful morning but this thread has cheered me up.

Of course you can't name his new son Benedict. And the fact that his first son is in Australia makes it significantly worse. ("Well, now that I don't see you very often, let me introduce you to Ben II.")

ack89 · 03/02/2020 15:20

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I think you're all correct. What are peoples opinions on Ned then? My DH loves that suggestion!

OP posts:
Poppydaisies · 03/02/2020 16:48

I thought Ned is an insult in Scotland?

Poppydaisies · 03/02/2020 16:49

Just looked it up. It means "non-educated delinquent" apparently!

Nobodyschilds · 03/02/2020 17:38

I know a Ned although not so sure they’re keen on the name themselves Shock

Letthemysterybe · 03/02/2020 17:46

I love Ned! But we are a longer way from
Scotland. I think it could be used as a nn for Edward.

june2007 · 03/02/2020 17:51

Was on my short list to. Bu having sung several Musica setting of the Mass I always want to sing Benedictus when I think of the name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 03/02/2020 18:10

Love it but not if your stepson is Benjamin

AngusDuck · 03/02/2020 18:43

Ned is dreadful.

SpeedofaSloth · 03/02/2020 18:45

Lovely name.

SpeedofaSloth · 03/02/2020 18:45

Not Ned, though.

cliffdiver · 03/02/2020 18:46

Makes me think of eggs.

And you already have a Ben.

AllInclusive321 · 03/02/2020 18:49

I just thought of Eggs

Nobodyschilds · 03/02/2020 22:11

I’m not getting the eggs comments ??? Confused
